there were parts that were helpful in terms of boiling down what is said in a lot of other self-help books into more relatable language, but so many things took me out of the book and distracted me from hearing the few key points that might have been relevant. for example, the lack of understanding when it comes to mental health (telling people to just stop being depressed) or the very cringe eat, pray, love-esque approach of using india as something so “other” you can use it as a way to find yourself and be so “shocked” by everything to remind yourself how lucky you are. overall, it just left a bad taste in my mouth and had a few other things that ranged from cringe to needing to skip a head a few lines. i think there are better self-help/memoir books that make the same points as in here in more salient and thoughtful ways.

Although there was nothing new for me in this book, I really enjoyed listening to most of it. I like the author's short, to-the-point delivery. I felt it would be a great book for people who haven't done a lot of self-development, as the chapters were pretty short, and no-nonsense. It was too simplistic at times, but also a good reminder that sometimes we need to get out of our heads and just go for it.

This book perpetuates grind and hustle culture. Read Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey instead to find true peace.

DNF- in Jen Sincero’s words, this book “doesn’t serve me, so I’m letting it go.” This self-help book is targeted towards an audience that apparently unanimously doesn’t seem to experience depression, anxiety or hardships. I decided to drop the book after I fully listened to the section on forgiveness, which is more than halfway through the book (3 hours in). It’s as if the author were completely ignorant of the consequences of harm, of the danger in silencing one’s anger in response to harm, and of the important role of repair before considering forgiveness. We don’t live in a world isolated from others. People’s actions impact others’ lives.

Not for me, but I could see how this could be really helpful for the certain person.
-Freudian concepts
-some of the language use wasn’t the greatest

How many times can I read a book like this until it sticks? A lot, and then some more and then quite a few more times until I can fully comprehend

Monotonous & overly Mumbo jumbo about “universe energy spirits”. No thanks.
