Hmm, well I'm glad the Book Riot Reading Challenge got me to finally read/finish this, but I also stand by me reading the first few pages and then putting it down for a decade. It does tie in to the first 2 eventually, but it's wildly different and my complaints continue from there.
I don’t really know how I feel about this book... I was pretty intrigued for the first 75% of it but the way that Lewis resolved the conflict is kind of anticlimactic in my opinion. So much so, I didn’t realize until everything eas falling apart until it had already done so.
Furthermore. The end. Was so weird. I don’t know what Lewis was thinking but just give it a read if you want to know (or look at the other reviews I’m sure there are many people discussing it) because I don’t feel like going into detail lol.
I’d still recommend giving it a read, it satisfies the series and makes for a pleasant ending!

I did not enjoy this book as much as the first 2 in the series. Very slow, hard to get into, and the character that I was most interested in did not get the most attention. It was truly a struggle for me to finish this book. Not for me but might be for someone else!
If I didn’t know it had such excellent predecessors in the first two installments of the trilogy, then I may have actually rated it higher. It was a really really good read but too long that it dragged in places.
There is a lot going on in this book and it deserves a second reading and maybe some explanatory guide in order to understand all that Lewis was going for here. Overall, I appreciate the message he was seeking to convey through the imagery and storyline. That message seems to be something like: behold the grotesque logical outcome of a devotion to science (i.e. scientism) bolstered by a philosophical materialism.

Creepy...Lewis ventures further into the realm of evil than I really care to go and brings up issues of ambiguity in morality that can make me uncomfortable (but that I probably need to face). In this final volume of the space trilogy Lewis finally admits that it isn't actually sci-fi but fantasy.
At first I was disappointed in what I saw as the anti-climax of the ending, but I think that really it is the ending where Lewis shows his genius.

This was such a good trilogy. Highly underated and needs to have more attention. I found this shocking and in parts truly horrific! Which shows that C.S. Lewes can write horror and adult things. These were a good set of books!
