Hmmm.... I think I'd give this 3.5 stars, if I could.
The whole story with Merritt and Hulda are put on the back burner for a bit in this book, as Merritt must go to England to meet the Queen (!!) and possibly find a human body for Owein. In the meantime, Hulda continues to find her missing boss in the U.S.... until she needs help from the English office.
To me, I admit, Owein is the least interesting of the cast of characters in the first book - and not just because he's a dog. Holmberg does a nice job of balancing Owein's youth (cuz he died early) with his old-man views (cuz he's been around for a long time) and it's just.... odd. I don't meld with him well. So when we get a book mostly focusing on him, and then bring in the odd things going on at the mansionand the forest around, I just didn't love it. Also, I got to the end of the book and it's clear there is going to be at least another book, if not more. So... yeah. Not my favorite here.

A lovely and cozy next edition in the Whimbrel House series! The vibes of this book continued in the cozy, charming, found-family, banter, and warmth that the previous two books shared. Though I did miss the Whimbrel House setting and cast of characters, I found the new London voices interesting, too. I'm excited that the end of this book seemed to continue to set up another story - I had thought this would be the last book in the series, but I will happily read more.
I liked this one more than the first two books, I think. Still highly recommend listening to it as the narration is done so well. I am definitely curious to see what happens in the next book.

I am a big fan of the Whimbrel House series by Charlie N Holmberg. It is such a cozy, whimsical, and magical series that makes for a great comfort read. Boy of Chaotic Making continues the trend with new a POV, side characters, and location. I loved that we got to see Owein's take on events. Even as a house he had such personality and a tragic back story. His perspective was so well done in this. Owein and Hulda both had great character progressions and growth, much like Merritt had in the previous installment. And of course Hulda and Merritt continue to be adorable, I love their relationship and the support they provide each other. The new characters were fun and provided new challenges and friends for the og crew while they're in London. The epilogue once again points to another sequel and I look forward to continuing their story in the next!

The amount of space the characters in this book take up in my heart is unmatched - from Owein and his bluntness to Hulda and her propreity that she sacrifices for Merrit to Baptiste and his dry humor. On top of that, the plot has been interesting in each book, and I love that each one followed a main character. These books have become a comfort read for me. Love, love, love! Also, highly recommend the audiobooks for all three!
