When Jeeves is sans Wooster, one wonders. But when the new young master, as it were, is Wooster by any other name, the mind rests.
Wodehouse is in sound-ish mid-season form.
You know exactly what to expect. And Wodehouse delivers.

The publisher should withdraw this book. It completely ruins the image of Jeeves. Instead of being subtle and clever, he is long winded and pedantic. His solutions to some problems, instead of being neat and ingenious are crude and stupid.
There are one or two amusing moments but the whole atmosphere is different.
If the name Jeeves was changed to something else and Bertie similarly swapped out it would at least protect those characters from damage.

Snappy dialogue but ... like .... none of the romancé without Jeeves’ muse. Also Quite literally none of the zippy narrative or comedic dynamic

Really enjoyed this, and must have read it before but I didn't remember it at all. No Bertie - he's lent Jeeves to his friend Bill. It's a bit different in that it's post-WW2 and there's a different feeling to it, the former idle rich are now all having to work for a living. The characters are great, the structure of the story is pitch-perfect for maximising chaos for the protagonists, and laughs for the reader.

Apparently this is the only "Jeeves" book that has no Bertie Wooster in it. (Except a few passing mentions.) Jeeves without Wooster seems ineffably... wrong. Still, there were many moments I found myself chortling; it is Wodehouse, after all. But Bertie was sorely missed.

I *liked* this Jeeves story but I didn’t *love* it! I just really missed Bertie and his shenanigans!

Not one of his best. Very formulaic and didn't seem like Wodehouse was even trying. This is a much later novel and it shows.
