I did enjoy this romance, but I feel like it didn't live up to the intense hype. I will say that the enemies to lovers part is at least an actual enemies to lovers, to the point where it was causing me anxiety just to read. I enjoyed reading about Ria and Adrien, and their chemistry and banter were on point. The slow descent of them falling into love was fun to watch, albeit a bit stressful at times. I think each character's motivations were okay, but I wasn't really a fan.

The cruelty involved with the back and forth between Ria screwing Adrien over and Adrien making Ria do everything was just ridiculous. And the random switch between needing her to pretend to be his fiance seemed really random as well.

No big complaints about the romance, except

when Adrien was spanking her and all, he seemed so confident and generally prepared on how it was going to go down. Yet, after the fact, he's like, I've never wanted to do this before but you make me want to. That just doesn't sit well with me, and also doesn't make a ton of sense.

The

third-act breakup was also just kind of a bummer. It made sense, but it just felt like cruelty on top of cruelty at that point, and the grovel was just a solid okay.

All in all, it was a good romance novel that kept me turning the pages, but it had some flaws that stopped me from rating it higher.

This book is a light and enjoyable read, but I think it would have been even better with a dual POV. Getting inside both characters’ heads especially Adrien’s would have added more depth. The shift from constant bickering to romance happened a little too quickly. While there’s truth to the idea that the line between love and hate is thin, in this case, it felt almost nonexistent. That said, the humor and banter kept me entertained, making it a fun and easy read overall.

IVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED FIVE STARS!!!!

this book. omg.

it’s been some months since i’ve read a spicy romance book that has great tension and great characters and great banter and great chemistry and great spice on top of that and also some good plot. most of the spicy romance i’ve read lately was pretty forgettable, following the same theme, same formulas, pretty much the same tropes. predictable.

but this. THIS was memorable.
