Disturbing in a way that you can't stop reading. Alluring and strange writing style.

Heathers meets murderous cults. I LOVED this book. It’s unhinged, surreal and weird in the BEST possible way. You literally never know what’s coming when you turn the page. The writing is really immersive and anxiety-inducing. I love the contrast between the raw, gross and sinister descriptions and the sickly-sweet cutesy vibes. It made the reading experience very unsettling. As an artist myself and someone who deals with deep feelings of loneliness, I felt very seen. This book nails the feeling of loneliness, the spiraling anxiety of trying to be “a good writer” and the suffocating pressure that comes from comparing yourself to others in a creative (elitist and pretentious) setting.

i dont think i was smart enough to understand this book but it felt a bit like i was on psychedelic drugs the entire time reading.
i CLOCKEDD ava and samantha fr but bro that was crazy

i do wish the worldbuildign was explored a lot more especially in regards to the bunnies/what the bunnie were doing with their darlings. im sure it's some metaphor that i will understand one day? the bunnies with their darlings also felt a bit strange to me - like it felt almost like rape the way they wanted to have sex with them (in a way that they could not consent at all??) ?? and idk that isn't explored at all. i think the author could've easily written 300 more pages on everything but it felt really rushed imo. im confused on how a lot of stuff happened ???
samantha's relationship with alan isn't really fully explored either or explained. neither with jonah. i get it's mostly to do with the bunnies btu even with them it's lowkey just samantha being indoctrinated for like 5 chapters then she just dips?? idk i dont get it lol. but it's good

I ate this book up! The kind of book I wanted to reread immediately after the last page.

First of all, Bowie didn't have two different coloured eyes, he had one permanently dilated pupil which made one eye look darker than the other. Both eyes were blue.

Second of all, I can't with the amount of similes constructed "like so many (fill in the blank)" or "like so much (fill in the blank)." Please stop.

Third of all, what did I just read? Do we hate MFA programs, love them, love-hate them, know them so well we can make the inside critique? Maybe all of the above. (Also, anybody else getting Verses Written with a Diamond from the Duchess? Elizabeth I? Who is getting that reference? ...Me apparently.)

The writing kept me reading as much as it put me off. Which may be the point of a horror novel set in academia, so I can't justly complain about that.

It's a trip, and it's a quick read, so if you're interested in academia, warped realities, rituals and animal sacrifice, as well as the complex balance (intersection?) between the creative process and manifesting desire, this could be the book for you.

I've never read anything like this before, and I'm not sure how to interpret many things in this book. The premise/plot wasn't really my cup of tea but I did really enjoy the authors voice and writing style. Even though it was mostly character driven and few plot points the weird twists that kept happening kept me glued to the page, which I liked. All in all though it felt like Mona Awad was trying to make a point about something and I just didn't "get it".

Like clearly Samantha is delusional/schizophrenic and Ava and Max aren't actually real, which is clevelry revealed on the end. But what about the Bunnies? Was this some sort of collective delusion. Because they clearly thought Max was real right? Otherwise they wouldn't have injured themselves. Also the bunny/boy thing I didn't get. Did they actually murder bunny rabbits and then Samatha made the rest up? I'm so confused...

I loved the writing of this book, every page was detailed and enjoyable to read. The characters and plot were interesting and engaging too. Overall amazing read.

I wish the connection between Sam and Max had been written more on, or that’s the actions of Max had somehow been Sam’s. I guess I wanted more of everything good, and wouldn’t have minded a longer book to see more. I was disappointed that  Sam still needed to rely on another person all  the way to the end of the book. To some degree, Max is Sam, however still had his own decisions, and they were decisions Sam could never commit too. The story couldn’t have continued or ended without Max magically appearing. I wish the three way relationship with Sam, Max, and Ava had been written more about too.

One other thing I thought a lot about was how bitchy the whole book was. Just woman hating woman. And the only one to change things up was a man. The Bunnies were, to some degree, still human. And they all seemed less than.
