This book gave me extreme emotional whiplash. Why was the last 20% of this book so sad? It started as a cute enemies-to-lovers story and then suddenly a suicide attempt and numbing depression and everyone has PTSD and the mc’s entire worldview collapses and the mother never got to tell the son she loved him…

Ever since I read Fangirl, I wanted Rainbow to write more about Simon and Baz and she could not have done a better job. The characters were so well constructed just as you would expect from a Rainbow Rowell book. The book however is basically a Harry Potter fanfic, which I personally do not mind because I love Harry Potter. Despite of that, the world was still unique in a way. The book in general was extremely enjoyable and easy to read!

"He is our greatest threat. And you are out greatest hope."

3.5 stars.
Plot-wise, everything about this book is VERY predictable. Like, ridiculously so. But I still enjoyed it all the same. It was cliché, incredibly absurd at times (one of the spells literally is "Need a break? Have a KitKat", no joke!"
It took me sometime to actually get into it (not that much, but i needed some getting used to). The writing is pretty simple, nothing really exceptional. But the characters are where it's at. Especially Baz, Penelope and Simon. I absolutely adored them and they're 100% the reason this book is worth it. Didn't really like Agatha, she was annoying but who cares...
In conclusion, I can't wait for the sequel!

what an amazing book from start to finish. I absolutely loved the characters, especially Baz and Penelope (what a strong female character!!) Rowell is brilliant in her writing, and takes an interesting and surprising take on what seems like a typical wizard story.
