I think I liked Recursion better, but this was a really good book.

I just realized I never wrote a review for this book that I read months ago... so I may be mis-remembering an appropriate star rating... Generally I did not really like the book, I think three stars may be a bit generous.
I feel like it was definitely an interesting or unique topic, but I think it was a little too weird for me and I did not love the ending. Even in my sci-fi, I like there to be a bit more reality.

I don't know what it was about this book, but I was obsessed. I could not put this book down. This seems to be the kind of book that I really like right now. Reminds me of [b:Version Control|25733442|Version Control|Dexter Palmer|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1439837238s/25733442.jpg|45426167]. Not exactly time travel, but some of those same threads. The end was a bit bloody for me, but it made sense given the story.
Yes, this is a love story at its heart. It is also fast-paced, intense, science-y and speaks to our ideas about regret.
I listened to this book, and the audio version was incredible. Some reviewers mentioned the writing style, which I can't exactly comment on, as it translated well to audio.

I've gone back and forth on this book. The ending, really the last half, had some really great twists and turns that kept it fresh and exciting. There were several moments that could have become cliche, but Crouch does a good job of subverting expectations. The problem is it takes a while to get going and I wasn't hooked for several chapters. Also the way this guy writes about women and Jason's physical relationship with his wife seems more like a 12 year old with an internet connection than an adult who has any sense of adult relationships. But overall it's a quick sci-fi thriller with some fun surprises.

I stuck with it for the story and the fact that it was a quick read. The story wasn't terrible but the author really treats his audience like idiots. It's horribly written, really cheesy and I just don't get the hype. It was clearly written with Hollywood blockbuster adaptation in mind, but it's Netflix Original-worthy at best.
