The other reviewers here have done a good job at detailing the complexity of motherhood found in The Push, the layers of meaning, etc.. Normally, I would chip in with my two cents but I'm so breathless from finishing this book that I can barely form thoughts.

What an absolutely beautiful monster of a book.

And that final sentence? I think I actually gasped out loud. I strongly believe that The Push will be my biggest recommendation of the year.

"The Push" by Ashley Audrain is a captivating psychological thriller that weaves an eerie and suspenseful tale. Audrain's writing skillfully immerses readers in the complex lives of three generations of women, exploring not only the challenges of motherhood but also the profound impact of generational trauma. The narrative is a true page-turner, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with its thrilling twists. Audrain's ability to evoke raw emotions from the characters adds a compelling layer to the story. While the book's intensity might require occasional breaks for digestion, the relentless desire to unravel the mysteries keeps readers engaged. The ending delivers a satisfying yet unexpected twist, leaving a lingering sense of wanting more. Overall, "The Push" stands out as a must-read, showcasing Audrain as a talented author to watch for future literary gems.

As much as I enjoyed this, a lot of these problems could have been solved with some security cameras. But then there'd be no story :)

Obviously, these aren't the best of people. However, that didn't take away from my reading experience. While I enjoyed it and it was thrilling to read,  I don't remember much of it hours later.

Also, we know why Blythe has her difficulties. But I would really like to know why the husband is the way that he is: utterly annoying and insufferable.

Addictive! The sense of DREAD building as the characters kept doing bad things. The early motherhood challenges are real and raw and made me feel seen. But the way that Audrain developed that into a suspenseful domestic thriller went beyond the Mama Drama and felt creative. If you are a new Mama, read this and you will feel seen, and also know that there are moms worse than you! Lots of triggering content, so check your CW's.

I liked the quick chapters and the story kept me interested. Definitely got some [b:We Need to Talk About Kevin|80660|We Need to Talk About Kevin|Lionel Shriver|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327865017l/80660._SY75_.jpg|3106720] vibes but it's much less intense. I liked that you're not sure which way things will go or who to believe - either option leaves a lot to think about.
