Unfortunately for my mental health, a traumatized autistic character with paranoia and high anxiety is one of the most relatable characters I have read. My rating might be impacted by this being one of the best done portrayals of an autistic character but idc & I enjoy Austin's writing style

enid’s moments with her mom & close friend, vin, hit me the hardest. i can count myself getting emotional over this book twice and it was when she was with them…i loved it a lot.

This book was well written and I’m glad I read it, but whew - much of this book was a stressful, uncomfortable read. I think I tagged half of the content warning labels when writing this review. Certainly a heavy, anxious read.

Emily Austin has done it again! I’m simply a sucker for her main characters, intensely relatable and awkward and fumbling for closeness with the people around them. This felt very similar to Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead, which sometimes felt like I was just reading a different version of the same book, but I do think there was enough here to keep me reading for more. Enid’s relationship with her mother was the real stand out of this book, I loved how interesting facts about space were other words for love. Austin is an auto-buy author for me, crafting wonderfully weird characters that I see myself in and feel so moved by.
