  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

May be my favourite Pagán to date. I really like how the author writes. Straightforward, real stories. I appreciate the diversity and the inclusion of strong women characters in all her books.

Sometimes I just need a “feel good“ kind of book just to counteract all the crap that’s going on in the world today. This book definitely fit the bill.

Cute beach read about finding yourself and being open to new people and new adventures. Who you were doesn’t have to determine who you will become.

The romance was underdeveloped (on both sides) and some of the mystery about the PI fell a bit flat but ultimately this was a fun read. A book about keeping an open mind even if you think you know who you are and what you want, life might have other ideas.

This was good. Not spectacular but not terrible. It was an easy read and I loved the characters. While there was barely a plot, there was still enough to help it move forward. I enjoyed how it was done in diary entries and emails. It also showed how two adults can be respectful to each other after they've done something wrong and how to still be friends after splitting up. It shows how important it is to have people in your life and even if something is hard, to still do it if it's right.

Really cute, strong start but I didn’t love the twist, if you could even call it that. Nice for what it was

Summary: Annie vows "no new people" after she loses her job, gets in an argument with her best friend, and her fiancée jets off to Paris to find himself. She needs space to figure out her life without the drama that relationships bring, until her glamorous and mysterious new neighbor shows up.

My take: This was a cute, easy to read story! I picked it up quite randomly at the library and it was a nice change of pace for me.

I found Annie endearing; she was quirky and fun to follow, but also totally awkward at parts that made me giggle. The format of the story made the pace feel pretty quick. There were added text and email conversations that were fun to read to switch things up!

Overall, this was a relatively simple book to read and I'd say it was "good" but not spectacular. Read it poolside for a fun little change of pace, but note that it's pretty vanilla. So if you want a steamy romcom then pass!
