I found it kind of hard to get into the story in the beginning.
I didn’t really like the main characters and I think that is why I didn’t get into the book in the beginning. I did however like the plot of the story which is the reason I kind of like this book anyway.

DID NOT FINISH

the age gap thing was a little vast, and i just couldn’t get past it, that’s all; it’s a bit of a bummer since it seemed i could’ve learned a lot more about hockey through this book, gleaming from some of the stuff the author already explained about the sport in their note. maybe i’ll pick this up again in the future? for right now, though, it’s a no from me.

This is truly such an adorable story. Little to no angst. Lane is such a hapless idiot it’s adorable. Jared working through his own setbacks and coming out in the best of places was lovely to see. Watching them bumble lovingly through their relationship was so nice to see.

They kept teasing the idea of threesomes through the whole book, but it never happens. For something to be teased that often I expected at least a failed attempt.

2.5/5

I'm not even sure why I liked this so much, it has a lot to do with the characters especially Lane... I was like that younger saying the most quirky things and everything that pass through my mind; in fact, people still have difficulty following a complete conversation with me because I jump from subjects to subjects and only I know the link between them :).

The story is pretty simple, Lane is starting his pro-hockey career in the minor-minor league and meets a player that has the potential of being a great teammate though he is on a rival team (you know what kind of teammate I mean, right?). I don't think it's the romance that got me addicted to this book, it works and Jared is perfect for Lane on many levels, but it almost felt like he met his best friend not his lover... they had plenty of sex, but it's the chemistry outside the bed that made me really love them.

Another surprise was that even though I'm not a fan of hockey (no, I'm not giving back my Canadian passport), I watched plenty of matches in my life (we had only 3 channels when I was growing up and it was the Habs' games in French on one channel and in English on another so the choice not to watch was not really there) I really loved the way the game is portrayed and I enjoyed reading a book with this sport as background. There was a chapter where Lane and Jared's teams were competing that I read like a powerplay, really fast and I was breathless. Great portraying of a much loved sport (just not by me). So funny because I don't even know where the playoffs are at right now... can't wait for the Euro (yup, footie is my sport) though.

I rarely read to books in a series back-to-back, but I'm reading the second in this series right away... I just can't wait and reading this book I knew who the next couple's relationship we would explore and couldn't wait.

I almost feel like watching a match now.
