alright. so.

I'm not gonna go very deep into this, because it's been a long time since my last one star book and I'd forgotten how much I hate when that happens. usually, if I'm not enjoying a book, I'd just DNF it and call it a day - but the thing is, I was actually liking this until part 3 started and it all just... went completely downhill.

mostly my reasoning behind the rating comes down to the terrible representation of african-related religions. it was just extremely distasteful, bordeline racist, and I was baffled by the lack of sensivity from the author's part in writing about already marginalized cultures in the way she did. no matter how entertained I was by the book before, there was nothing to enjoy about it once those elements came into play.

one star and I'd rather forget I ever read this at all.

It never took me so long to finish a book

4.25 stars! I actually think the last 3% moved it up about a half star. I don't actually mean that because of big plot twists, but more so just the way it wrapped up and things came full circle. I had a few issues with the book and I was going to rate it 3.75, but moved it up after I read the last little bit. I also think for some reason, I am reflecting on it. I realize the genre is not a very deep thought provoking one ( like a general fiction tragic book), but when I think about a book a while after completion, I always appreciate it more. And I'm getting that vibe.

3 1/2 stars

I like that the book takes place in Savannah GA, since I live in Atlanta. The storyline took several shifts and I wasn’t exactly sure what the underlying premise was going to be. I actually predicted the mastermind, but it was well done. It seemed like everything was a bit rushed at the end and at times confusing. I preferred Behind Her Eyes a bit more, but both are good!

I started reading Dead to Her and I was immediately intrigued by the fast pace and the pages flew by. However, things started going downhill about a quarter of the way through. I hated the characters. All of them. Most of the book is spent inside Marcie's head, not really a place I wanted to be. It all became really repetitive. Too many unlikeable characters and threads that seemed to go nowhere until the end. It gelled together somewhat by then, but I just didn't care at the point.

Honestly, I nearly DNF this one. I was upset because I so enjoyed Behind Her Eyes. This one didn't work for me on any level.
