Having been so long since I’ve read these books I forgot about all the tiny details that make this series so much more magical. The golden trio truly molds with each other so well and this book (in my opinion) further accelerates their relationship more than the first two. The sharing of this huge secret at the end and their combined trust whilst in the shack proved their loyalty to eachother first.

My favorite of the movies, so one of the books I was most looking forward to. I'd heard that the movie deviates from the book quite a bit, but I didn't find that to be the case. The book has lots more with Hermione's cat, but that doesn't lead anywhere interesting and I'm glad the movie cut it out. On the other hand, the movie adds that whole chase through the forest with Harry and Hermione's running from the werewolf, which is my least favorite part of the film. Other than that, the plots are pretty comparable.

But where the book of course excels is putting me in Harry's head: letting me understand how terrible the Dementors are, how confused Harry is about the appearance of his patronus, and how devastating it is for him to think he's going to be able to go live with Sirius and then have that taken away from him. The movie does a fine job of communicating that those things are all happening, but it takes prose to make me feel it alongside Harry.

Following the escape of convicted murderer Sirius Black from a maximum-security wizard prison known as Azkaban, thirteen-year-old Harry Potter goes back to Hogwarts for his third year after a misfortunate event with the Dursleys. Throughout the year he is plagued by sightings of a wizard-omen known as the Grim. Is the Grim truly a symbol of death to come or is it something or someone more?

This is the first book in the Harry Potter series where I truly believe that JK Rowling found her voice or maybe she decided that the readers of the first 2 books are finally able to handle more description and a huge plot twist.
