This is the most perfect book everš
all i have in my head rn is āFeels so Rightā by Janet Jackson and IYKYK, itās PERFECT for this book. Ebony did her BIG ONE!!! Now excuse me while i breakdown everything i loved about this book:
1. The Detroit/Michigan references. The way i actually felt so proud to be from Detroit reading thisš and I know yāall think EmHen is writing the michigan life but truly NOBODY is doing it like Ebony. You wanna know about my life in Michigan and specifically detroit? read this book! Ebony is putting everyone on to the Detroit experience fr fr. I donāt live in the heart of the city anymore but this made me so nostalgic, I felt like I was reading parts of my childhood and it brought back so many memories š„¹ also the references to Michigan Brands & Restarauntsš Like hold on let me crack open a Vernors and get me some Better Maid Chips with a Coney Dog!
2. PRINCE. NEED I SAY MORE? Yall know how much I love the Artist Prince, so seeing this man was named Prince i just knew i was gonna fall in love with him but MY GOD did he exceed all my expectations. Prince is my DREAM man. heās exactly who i would have wanted in HS, and heck still would want todayš© Him being a radio DJ is so cool. Heās so perfect to me even his flaws š«¶š¼ and his love note to Dani at the end made me cry and idc what that says about me!
3. The Musical aspect about the book. I LOVE MUSICš© and I just felt like Ebony really wrote exactly how music makes me feel, and how i feel about music. Gosh i loved every musical part of this book, and i may just make another trip to the Motown Museum tbh!
4. I always say that YA novels help us heal a part of ourselves, and iām going to be so real I truly needed a book like this as a high schooler. To give me hope that love like this exists, and to be told that I deserve my own love story just like Dani. I am so happy Dani was able to take the necessary steps to heal from her trauma, something that she couldāve easily allowed to hinder her from her family, friends and dreams. Itās such a healthy example for young women who may have experienced the same thing.
Overall i just want to say thank you to Ebony for writing this book, it was everything and more and truly just means so much to me. This is easily one of the best books iāve ever read in my life š„¹š

I loved the characters in this book and I loved seeing them getting to know each other.
It was nice seeing them take an interest in each other and truly caring about the other.
This book takes us on a journey through the twos relationship to each other but it's an injustice to the book to say that is the only journey we go on.
A lot of it is not only the characters finding how they feel about each other but how they feel about their own lives.
Danielle goes through handling that she was assaulted ((trigger warning for S.A in this book.)) in the past and Prince goes through taking care of his mother and what that means for his future.
There are happy moments and their are sad moments in this book.
I was really rooting for them through out the book.
One of the things I love about this book is love does not fix the main characters.
The main characters help each other grow but love instantly fix everything going on.
It's up to the characters themselves to get the help they need and figure out what's going on in their lives.
Which feels like such an important message.

3.5, rounded up! This was cute!! I loved the characters, the intertwining themes of writing and music, and the uplifting ending. I think I just hyped this so much in my head that I think I did it a disservice. The character arcs were a bit rushed in my opinion, but this was still a fun story!

This is such a sweet book. At first, I thought the FMC was hard and off-putting, but as the story developed, so did she. I very much admire her self-assuredness, her accountability, her grace, her vulnerabilityā¦she is just a lovely lovely young lady.
The MMCā¦I literally see no flaws. He is SO thoughtful and respectful and caring!! Ugh I just melt at these two together. They both deserve all the good things.
This was a fast-paced easy read. Loved the themes of friendship, healing, love, family, and creativity. 10/10 recommend for new romance readers or as a palette cleanser.
