Ahh, FINALLY got this one in!  (It's been on hold since I read A Dark and Stormy Murder about a week ago.)

I love this series.  I read Julia Buckley's other series this past week and it's just not the same!  It's not bad but these are great - even though there are some very just goofy and unbelievable moments.  It makes the story no less believable though!

Lena London is back, still working with our dear famed writer, Camilla Graham, and still dating Sam West.  Even though he is free, his wife (that he was previously accused of murdering) is still missing.  Then her best friend turns up dead in Sam's yard and reporters are swarming and Lena wants nothing more than to get to the bottom of this.

Great story, great mystery, and I'm very upset to be 7 down the on hold list for book #3.  I love how this series actually is a series - not just similar stories set in the same place but story lines that continue from book to book.  Because of that though, you really have to start with book 1!

If you are a cozy mystery fan, definitely check this one out!  9 of 10 for enjoyment and 4.5 of 5 for readability.  It flies by but was enjoyable and kept me hooked.  I couldn't wait to dive back into this story so I could find out what happened next!

This book was just as good as its predecessor. I thoroughly enjoyed the latest visit with Lena, Sam, Camilla and the rest of the gang. Book three can’t come soon enough!

Number two in the Writer's Apprentice Mystery series was just as entertaining as the first. The mystery was good and I liked the characters...mostly. Sickly sweet, lovey dovey couples do nothing for me and that's what we got here. Yes, angst and drama is more interesting to read, but it doesn't have to be that. They can definitely be happy, but constantly fawning all over each other is nauseating. Other than that, this one was good. I'll definitely be continuing the series.

Pretty disappointed in this one. I liked the first book in the series so very much and I also really enjoyed Buckley's other series, despite it's slightly outlandish premise. So I'd actually been saving this one up as a treat to myself, but really I shouldn't have bothered. There are two mysteries at play here, neither of which are executed particularly well. Mystery A (the disappearance of the soon-to-be-ex-wife of our heroines new love interest) is carried over from the first book, which didn't really bother me, but it occupies the vast majority of this book and I honestly couldn't give a hoot about it. And the fact that it's "solved" such as it is by these characters and not, say, actual law enforcement, pretty much just using Google and flipping through some magazines, is a bit ridiculous. To say the least.

Mystery B is the murder of a socialite blogger who came to apologize to the above mentioned new love interest for suspecting him of murdering her friend, the above mentioned missing wife. She dies off-screen, before making any actual appearance and it seems almost incidental to the characters, who sort of occasionally go, "Oh yeah, she's dead. How sad."That's an exaggeration, obviously, but not by much. And when the actual explanation of her death comes, it is completely ridiculous rubbish.

And then! There is a DRAMATIC SCENE that sets up a cliffhanger for the next book. *Insert eye roll here* Which I will probably read because her other, slightly silly series was cancelled and I did like the first one so maybe this was a bad fluke?

Just as good as the first. Great characters, terrific mystery. And I love how the author builds in and sets up long term plots and new mysteries for the future. Brilliant!

I'm so disappointed in Death in Dark Blue. Instead of a cozy mystery, I felt like I was reading a romance novel. Lena London, the protagonist, should have been consumed with her career as a collaborator with novelist Camilla Graham and the murder that occurred in her backyard. But nope, she was busy chasing Victoria West, the estranged wife of her love interest Sam. Oh, and sleeping over at Sam's house, romantic dates with Sam, and of course, daydreaming about Sam. It appears that this story will continue in the next book, so I will not be reading any more of this series.

Story arc is interesting. Still not seeing the chemistry with Lena and Sam. Feeling that they are Mismatched. Not sure why. Would like to see more of the townspeople.
