PRE-read review:

Why does this book, which has not yet been released, have such an outrageously high rating already? I simply cannot understand the need to rate a book before it's even been launched. I adore the Fever series, but I despised "Iced", no matter how hard I tried to like and accept it. And "Iced" had a huge rating as well, but turned out to be a disappointment for many fans. Of course I will pre-order this and read the hardcover. Why? Cos the universe is still awesome. But that doesn't mean that the book is an automatic 5 star. Please stop climaxing over something that doesn't exist yet.

POST-read review:

Well, I finished reading this book (basically it was a slow, controlled devouring of it) and I must state that the series is definitely back on track. For all those who despise ICED (me included), rest assured that you can place "Burned" beside the other 5 books of the Fever Series because it offers much more than its predecessor of which I shall rant no longer. This novel is pretty light on action, but it is the perfect venue for character development. All the characters grow, their relationships develop, they become more palpable and close to the reader. I loved what Ms. Moning did to the Nine that are explored in Burned. I loved what she did with Mac and Barrons. I know many have complained about the faux pas in their relationship, but I find it logical, perfect and, to be honest, not disturbing in the least bit, after having known and understood these two imperfect, ruthless, damaged yet utterly amazing characters. I despised (and still do) Dani with a passion, so what happened to her is entirely perfect in my opinion, but I still could not care less about that character. The only clear difference in my opinion of her is that, while I wanted her to be meat in the first five books, now I might suffer her to live, just off screen where she does not annoy. I was not impressed by Jada...it was the right move, the best move after Iced, but as I said, in my opinion, she is nothing but a prop in this world.

The descriptions are spot-on, the dialogue could use some improvement in some parts where they all scream one over another, but it is a very visual, very movie-like book, and so so easy to get in the minds of all these characters, as well as visualize the whole things as an omni-present viewer. I cannot wait for the next installment, hoping it is just as good as this one.

So my main problem with this is the same as my problem with the rest of the series pre-Iced: it's kinda formless, random, hard to follow and harder to believe. But I get why people love it because it can be funny as hell and addictive at times too. Leaps and bounds better than Iced, this was a return to form for Moning, I think.

3 1/2 stars
Well. I loved Fever 1-5. Did not read Iced because I hated Dani in fever series. Then I find out grown men are fawning over her and she's still fourteen. So no. Not reading it. Then two years later all of the sudden I see Dani's book is marked as Fever #6 and #7 with Mac and Barrons coming out in January. WTF? I thought fever ended with 5? Iced was start of Dani's series? No no. Shit. Now I have to read Iced so I'm not lost. I read it this week and hated it. Kept seeing Mac and Barrons pass us by, I keep waving at them the entire Iced book. Hey Mac, Barrons over Here! They ignore everyone. Probably too busy fucking. Good for them.

So onto this. This book starts out with a BANG! Too bad most of this author's fans already read this BANG like......years ago! Now we see it again, loses it's effect. Now Dani's novel really looks out of place because it's a YA novel stuck in between an adult series. This makes no sense. Good thing I love these characters! (Except Dani). Now I have seen reviews about this book and the people who hate it, some are blaming the negative reviews for Iced as the reason for this books identity crisis. Well shit, the author has had over two years to write this bloody thing! Time enough to avert crisis I'd say. Anyway, we get multiple points of view here. Some good, some boring. Mac becomes invisible and we finally get some secret info from her adventures in stalking invisibly. As usual , the author leaves us on a cliff .......literally, with poor Deagus as her victim. Her cliffhanger habit has gotten super old. I have no idea why authors use this tactic anymore. It just pisses people off. What will piss me off more is if we have to wait two years for another book.

Honestly Iced and the first half of Burned almost completely turned me off the rest of the series. But being able to “spy” on the side characters and see how they interact with each other hooked me right back in! Others saying this fell flat but Mac’s invisibility saved the book in my opinion!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Internal fucking conflict. I gods damned hate it. Just let Dani come back. Kudos to Moning for figuring out a fairly intriguing way of getting rid of the slight underlying pedophilia. This shit was wayyyy better than Iced.

I'm also soooo glad I read the Highlander books last fall. I'm actively invested in the kelter clan. And I'll RAGE if anything happens to them.
challenging emotional funny inspiring tense

KMM kills me with her cliffhangers! I want this book NOW. I don't want to rush genius, but man oh man I don't want to wait a year...

Pretty good continuation of the Fever series, however, there was just a little bit to much of Mac talking inside her head.....did I mention a cliffhanger?

This was hot!!!!

This series is definitely getting better for me as it goes on. Mac is so much less annoying now, Dani/Jada is my homegirl and there’s so much less annoying side plot.
