Ahhhhhhhh cliffhangers! Glad there's only 8 months until the next book!

....and Mac is back!

It's been so long since Iced that I had to actually read the "characters" and "locations" index in the back to remind myself who everyone was.

While Iced focused on the triangle of dani/dancer/ryodan, this book is all about everyone gettin' some lovin'. Moning sets up more than just Ryodan and Barrons to find emotional mates, and while I haven't read her highlander series, I suspect you'll be thrilled to see some of the Keltars with mention of their mates, have some face time.

So, there's too much. Let me sum up. Kat is still in charge of the Abbey where super-unseelie Prince Cruce is frozen.

Unseelie and Seelie are still swarming all over Dublin. Dani's still got the sword and Mac the spear that will kill them.

Dani and Mac are still fighting.

Then Mac and Dani have a confrontation that ends with Dani falling into the slivers-- the weird fae world the fae king built to house his concubine.

(there's weird little king/concubine passages scattered throughout the book as well)

There's a lot of Mac walking around lusting after Barrons, and Ryodan despite herself, and watching naked members of the Nine.

There's angsting and politicking between teh Nine, the fae, the abbey, and the Keltar over rescuing christian.

And then there's Jada. A random, mysterious sidhe-seer who enters the city and immediately gets all up in everyone's business.

And just when I thought I was all smart for guessing that Moning was dealing with the age difference between Dani and Ryodan by having her "age" while she's lost in the silvers....Moning has to go and add a whole 'nother layer of angst on top of that relationship. Nice one, Moning. I tip my hat to you for that. Very cool

So there's lots of sexxoring (not by Mac, poor thing) and there's some POV from others of the Nine, and lots of romance, and it got a bit slow at points, but the heroic rescue at the end was so COOL-- actual rescue, the bantering/fighting by the main characters, the character development, the relationship development, the hag's weird insectile-pike legs-- that i didn't care.

Very few series manage to keep me through this many books, especially when the main couple is already together. Moning keeps me coming back for more. Don't read this one out of order, though! Read the series in order. Or suffer the consequences!

I really enjoyed Burned. Is it the best book in the series, no, but it’s not the worst either – that would be Iced for me. And, I think this is one of the reasons for the many love it or hate reviews. If you like Iced, then this book is probably a letdown because Dani is not the primary character. But, Dani does grow in this book and that is important for the series to continue. Dani could not stay 14 for several more books without completely alienating a good portion of the fan base. Some of you may call it a cop out and/or conforming but I like to think of it as reality for a successful book. Dani was going to have to grow up eventually and I’m glad she got it done in this book and I feel the next book will expand on who she is and/or will be. I honestly can’t imagine being able to live through 2 or 3 more books of “dudes” and “the Mega” is awesomer of awesome blah, blah, blah. Her growing up worked for me and I’m looking forward to her development in the next books.

I feel this book is kind of a filler book and setting up for the final books. This is not unusual for this series. All of the first 4 books had lots of dialogue and information that didn’t get played out until book 5 and this book is following that progression from what I can tell but it was not quite as all-consuming for me as the first 5 books.

I’m really looking forward to the next book and hope the October (or sooner) is the true release date.

My issues with the book.

Lots of different POV did get confusing at times. Also, some of the writing was hard to follow. I had to re-read sections or pages several times to figure out what was happening. This isn’t necessarily new because KMM has done this in other books but I did find myself confused more often in Burned. I think KMM wants to keep you kind of guessing where things are going and sometimes it just ends of being too complex.

Some possible light spoilers ahead

Mac – yes, she is whiny and unsure of herself but I actually think that makes sense. In the first 5 books, she had to just suck up what was going and deal with it the best she could but when it was over, she is conflicted an unsure of who she is anymore. But it isn’t really over because she has to come to terms with being the carrier of the Sinsar Dubh. I’ve seen some reviews where they feel Mac should be done but I can’t see how you can just remove her from the plot line. She is still very important to the series. I can’t believe that at some time her and Cruce aren’t going face off. Maybe I’m crazy and wrong.

Mac/Barons – They have never had a traditional relationship and I am baffled that some readers seem to think that all of sudden they will have a white picket fence and such. I didn’t feel the tension later on in the book was warranted but I think we can all relate to being irrationally angry at people when we feel our life is out of control. Making mountains out of molehills is probably fairly common in most relationships.

It’s been a number of years since I visited this world, so it took a moment or two to find my balance. A great addition to the series although I’m reserving judgment on Dani/Jada. Mostly because it hurts my heart. No, I don’t like to be in Dani’s head (POV) because teenagers annoy me, but I don’t want all her joy and excitement about life to be extinguished forever.
Mac and Barrons are the same and it’s always wonderful when Barrons slips and lets emotions out. 😉

I read this book a while back and forgot to remove from kindle. Oops

I haven't put reviews in for each individual book because I kind of inhaled this series reading them one after another. I find the story line interesting but the books themselves get a little bit long and repetitive. Story could be told in many fewer scenes/words.
