First I'm going to start off by saying I love Karen Marie Monings books, she is my favorite author, and the Fever series is my favorite series. Now with that being said.... I was super disappointed with this book. My expectations were very high, thinking I was gonna be blown away by this installment. Wow was I horribly wrong. It was very repetitive, as in things from the previous books kept being brought up. It's like Karen wrote this book for new readers, who are just getting into the series. I felt like it was a "filler" book just to make her fans happy until the next book comes out. Mac was very annoying. And the whole Dani/Jada thing just pissed me off. Honestly Dani could be killed off and I'd be fine with that. I've never really liked her. The ending didn't shock me as much as I thought it would. Dageus is a Druid for Christ sakes, of course he's gonna be fine. Anyway, I hope the next book gets better, I know we have to wait longer for it now.
3 stars is the best I can do for this book, although a 2.75 is more accurate. This book started out as a disaster, a writer attempting to be more than they are, and then some redeemable story and action were added. The first half of the book is drivel and completely useless--similar to the Life of Pi, where you need to skip the first 100 pages.
I really enjoyed the Fever books but have been nothing but disappointed in this spinoff series. I intend to read the rest of them just so I can learn the outcome.

After Iced I wasn't really looking forward to Burned. Shoulda listened to that intuition. Burned was....boring.
Just as I suspected something happens and Dani returns older. And boring-er. And we spent half of Iced discovering Dancer and waiting for him to turn up in Burned only to be greatly disappointed.
I've read here that KMM changed the direction in the series after grand outcry that 14 yr old Dani was the object of desire for grown men. I was a little squicked out by it too, but they didn't act on it, except for that fight between Christian and Ryodan. I think she could have redone the story and dropped the sexual tension in Burned way better than what we ended up with.
I mean, Dani would have called them pedophiles, kept her distance and pulled her sword anytime one of those guys gave her the eyeball. It seems totally unnecessary to age up Dani so grown men could "legitimately" sexualise her.
There are several POV shifts in the book: Christian, Mac, Jada, Kat, Lor....but none bring real value to the story. They are mostly 2-dimensional characters with boring storyline. It made me wish for 14 yr old Dani - not because she's my favorite, but because she brought a different narrative with her.

I read far enough to determine this wasn't the sequel I was hoping for, skimmed the rest to be sure it wasn't, and then read the last chapters. I returned to this world of toxic alpha males and rape culture because I wanted to read more about the snarky teenager who makes poor decisions. Instead, I quickly found that Dani has been reduced from the main character to a plot point. Plus, the world building is slap dash. This fictional world isn't for me.
What did I think? What did I think?????..........At first, a major disappointment! For those of you who don't already know, this book is written primarily in Mac's point of view. I was really disappointed in discovering this. In fact so much that I kind of had a tantrum and stopped reading the book for a few days. Unlike some, I liked Iced and enjoyed reading through Dani's point of view. It was refreshing, fun and exciting. I waited 2 long years for the next installment only to find out that Dani is absent about 90% of the book?!?!?!? Once I calmed down, lowered my expectation and started reading again, I did find the book enjoyable but its certainly not her best. I found that there just wasn't anything that really popped and sizzled. Its as though everything was toned down, even numbed, primarily because we are reading through Mac's point of view. Her story is over (apparently not) and I found reading through her makes the characters feel more distant.
This is all I will say for now until I can process this book fully. I have figured out one thing in reading Moning's fever series; Its better to be a fan of Karen Marie Moning when and if she ever finishes ALL the books to the series. Being a fan while she is in the process of writing them is frustrating and for me, I have lost of little love for the series and for her because I feel she starves her fans just a little too much. Devouring each book that comes out painstakingly slow every damn year is somewhat challenging because she gives the reader a small tastes here and there. Makes her readers look forward to the books to come but then I feel, she never really quenches the thirst that we all require. Its worn on me and I am no longer as excited when her books come out as I use to be because I know she is notorious for this. BUT....for now, I will continue to buy her books. She's made a addict out of me.

The first 40% was a real struggle for me to get through. Honestly, I couldn't handle all the alternating POV. Normally 3 is my limit. This has 8, sometimes 9 and it's drove me bat shit. But I soldiered on, because well....Barrons. I'm glad that I didn't listen to my initial thoughts and kept with it.
very interesting telling of an encounter that happened and we don't know about it by reading from a different point of view.
As always, Karen M. Moning does not disappoint.
Another thrilling book to fill the hole Mac and Barrons have left behind since Shadowfever.
These books are such fast reads and I just can't put them down!
Maybe it's because of the first-person PoV, but you just can't help floundering behind Mac, as she tries to navigate this complicated world, where nothing is as it seems, and no one ever tells you everything.
She is always just catching up to what's really going on, and so are you.
I recommend this series to everyone looking for a great Urban Fantasy story.

What annoyed me the most about this book, is I called the *twist* of a character at the very start. It was easy to call, and I'm guessing KMM didn't want it that way because of the buildup. As soon as I realized it, I just waited for the others to catch up. Catch up they did. Finally. After taking forever.
Mac is back, and she annoyed me. I can't believe I said that.
Mac annoyed me.
She spent quite a bit of the book complaining about her situation, and staying indoors because of it.
Best part of the book - Barrons, when he apologized (in a way Barrons only could) and told her how much he wanted her, then stalked out. And Barrons when he brought justice to Mac and called her out.
It really wasn't the greatest book in the series, and left quite a few lose ends.
I'm not good at reading books as they come out and waiting for the new one, yet this left me with a taste in my mouth I can't get out, and between this and Iced, I haven't decided if I'll continue the series. Guess I have a bit to decide.

It's a great book. I kind of went ahead and spoiled it a little by reading some reviews. I was afraid I wasn't going to like it, luckily and not all that surprisingly I do indeed like it! Not sure about the Dani/Jada part but Jada is kinda growing on me I guess.
