3.5 - This book was definitely more than I expected. Do not be fooled by the cover! Slow build in the first half and the second half really packs a punch and holds you in suspense. Probably intentionally, you only get in the protagonist’s head in this story which leads to some of the suspense and disbelief in parts.

Intriguing and curious start with a dramatic and stoic finish. Great Gatsby like with a simultaneously quiet and noisy underlying commentary on identity politics, feminism, and the me too movement
That was unexpected! This book closely mirrors my life as a tenure track prof in a small university town with one child. The politics and pressures ring true but the ending is unexpected. Lots to discuss.
