I'm really not sure how I feel about this one. Marrs is an excellent author, and I've loved the majority of the work he's put out, but I feel like certain liberties he decided to take with this one just weren't for me. At times, this read like your run of the mill thriller. A neighborhood and its neighbors full of secrets. The past coming back to bite you in the ass. Twists and turns that make your head spin. But in-between all of those things, other aspects of this story, which will enter spoiler territory if I dive too deep just slowed things down to a crawl and overall I think this was too different of a book for me to truly enjoy. If you've read The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager and was surprised by the out of nowhere twist in that book you'll know what I mean when I say John definitely took some liberties here that I didn't expect. Also, there's such a thing as having too many twists in a book as they can just jumble up the plot, and that was also one of my issues here as well.
Three women, three smouldering secrets. Who will make it out alive?
I actually wondered if I was going to be alive by the end of this one. It wasn't great. The characters were just awful and grated on me all the way through.
The story itself was so confusing at times and quite deluded.

📚 Book Review 📚
I am so disappointed… that I’ve waited this long to read a John Marrs book!! What on earth have I been doing with my life? 🤣
From the prologue when a disconnected voice growls to the person bound and gagged inside the bonfire, “you killed me first”, I was hooked.
The story centres around three women; Liv, Anna and Margot and each narrate the unfolding events.
Liv is the newest resident to the cul-de-sac. She is blonde, beautiful and has designs on opening a new yoga studio in a change from a career in banking.
Anna is quiet, mousy and a talented jewellery designer who doubts her abilities and who is overshadowed by her neighbour, Margot.
Margot is an ex girl band member, a home wrecker and never has a chipped nail or a hair out of place.
Each one has their own secrets.
Each one has lied.
But who will be killed first?
An absolute diamond of a psychological thriller, littered with clues, red herrings, reveals and twisty turns. I LOVED it! Make sure that this is on your list, you won’t regret it.
And a word of advice, check out the neighbours if you are moving to a quiet cul-de-sac ..

This was the perfect book to listen to on our road trip. Short chapters with multiple pov, what Marrs does best! Twists and more twists.
