A really entertaining set of short stories. Some of them almost seemed like they could be adapted as jokes. A book worth reading, even if its just for a few minutes here and there.

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A very interesting collection of over 100 short stories that all relate to father/son relationships. Some can get a bit repetitive, but I have to say that I enjoyed the book very much, and I loved all the different riffs, twists, and turns. Very inventive.

Clever writing does not, for me, save what turns into a tired and tiring conceit. The smugness rolls of this collection in waves - have you ever wanted to smack a book? There's also something about the micro-short story that I can't quite put my finger on, but I don't like it. Anyhoo, this would have been pleasant reading as a piece in The New Yorker.

I received an ecopy from the publishers and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book to be clever and comical. It contains many little antidotes on the dynamics between father and son that range from bizarre to deranged. I found myself shaking my head and laughing to myself. This is one I know a few people will enjoy the twisted sense of humor that I think this one was written for, it's already on my husbands stand to read next.

Quirky, brilliant, hilarious, and ultimately redundant.

Inherited Disorders: Stories, Parables, and Problems tells the many stories, many conflicts, many shades of sons looming under their father's legacies. Ehrlich's vignettes playfully invokes a sense of irony, humor, absurdity that highlights the complexity of father and son relationships. Each biting snippet is meant to be bitten at once.

On Goodreads I have a shelf called #grownup which hopefully helps me grow to be a better person. Jury's still out on the matter. However, "Inherited Disorders" is a book of 117 absurdist vignettes on the complex relationships between fathers and sons.

This was ok. I was hoping for a more varied experience, an exploration of fathers and sons and all of their manifestations and complexities, but it felt like the same two or three relationships possibilities dressed up in different particulars in each chapter. It's by turns warm and funny and bitter and sad, and I certainly didn't hate it. However, I didn't love it as much as I had expected to either.
