This book basically sums up horror movies from several different eras giving you an essential tag lone of what the movie is about and then a very thorough walk through of the movie followed up with a 'why it matters', quick tidbits about the moving filming or the actors/directors, and some suggestions of books you can read if you can better read horror instead of watching it.

What I thought was really interesting is the political, economical, and social reflections in the time the movie was made and/or semblances of those that are portayed in the movie.

I found it interesting and though I am a BIG no on watching and reading horror, I could read the summaries without any affects that would happen if I would watch the movie.

I wasn’t sure about Horror for Weenies: Everything You Need to Know About the Films You’re Too Scared to Watch by Emily C. Hughes but I’m glad I took a chance. A book about horror films that is informative and also funny is a great combination. The author covers a great deal of ground with roughly sixty movies described, from early ones to today’s titles. Each movie is so well put into words that the reader feels like they have seen the film in question. Following each one is a list of books that reflect the theme of the film for those of us who still do not want to see the movie. I enjoyed Horror for Weenies in audiobook form well-narrated by Cassidy Brown. Highly recommended.

Want to be in the know about some classic horror movies, but you're wayy too scared to actually watch them (AKA me!), then read this book instead. I actually got scared at times reading the breakdowns of these classic horror films (um Exorcism and Rosemary's Baby - YIKES!), but this book was too addicting to put down! Who needs Wikipedia when you have Emily C. Hughes!

The writing is terrific in this book that summarizes (in long form full spoilers) the plot of about three dozen horror movies from different modern eras. The author also includes trivia about each film and interesting genre notes. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book which goes through a bunch of important horror films, summarizes them, and then discusses their cultural significance. I never really thought of myself as a horror movie fan, so I was kind of surprised how many of these I had actually seen. One of the most interesting things to me was the discussion of how horror movies are so often reflective of the social anxieties of the time - like 80s horror movies as AIDS metaphors and post 9-11/Guantanamo movies as reflections of torture anxiety.

I actually really loved this book. Watching horror movies usually makes me physically sick so I appreciate that I was able to read a full synopsis with out having to watch. I appreciate that the descriptions were detailed but not incredibly gory. I loved how funny some of the comments regarding the movies were. I also really enjoyed the explanations on why so many of these movies were important to modern cinema.
