I thought about giving it a 4.75 because I wasn’t huge on the writing style in this book at the beginning. But I got over that. Overall a really good story with a solid ending that King usually flops on. The midway twist was not what I was expecting but it made the story so much more complex and enjoyable.
Graphic: Rape, Murder
Stephen King is best when not writing his horror genre. Billy Summers is a masterclass in the art of writing a book. A fabulous story of a for hire assassin on his last mission before retirement. King shows how to build a character using multiple techniques, how to make the readers fall in love with a character, even one who is full of various shades of grey. And depending on your viewpoint, he shows to to or how not to end a book.
Your basic hard-boiled hitman with a heart of gold novel.
I liked it in general, but

I just get so goddamn sick of rape/assault plotlines, and just, really? Fine. If that doesn't bother you, you'll probably like this. There is almost no supernatural in it, but it's still a good story, I just hated the hook.

In this book, Billy is asked to do another job.
He is asked to shoot someone. Although, shooting the person isn't the biggest task of the job, it's getting away that is the issue.
I always think that Stephen King books are difficult for me to get into and this book was not different. But once you really get into the plot, it is so good. I especially found the relationships in the book very interesting. They were very different from each other but they are all a little strange and not formed as they are supposed to.

Som vanligt är det 50 % ordbajs. Sen blir jag väldigt fundersam över om en kan kallas observant bara för att en märker att någon har rakat av sig sin mustasch...
What another great work of Stephen King. While not my favorite King work I really do love how his writing has changed since his early years. I, in particular really enjoy these newer, thriller/crime books he has been turning out. I was shocked that this is likely one of the least sexually provocative books by King I have ever read. However there are rather specific descriptions of rape, so if your triggered by that then this is likely not the book for you. Once again King's character development is so vivid and he makes you just love, or hate the person your reading. Sometimes King does get a bit wordy and describes people or events in great, lengthy detail that have very little to do with the overall plot. And there are a few, but only a few, parts were I got a tad bit bored with what I was reading. But over all this is a very well-paced and intriguing work by King.

This was a surprise read. I can easily see this being translated to the big screen. Billy Summers is an assassin called on to do one last hit. In typical "one last job" fashion things go wrong, but this story took a turn I wasn't expecting and the story shines because of it. I won't give away spoilers but Billy's sidekick really shines and I loved the way the story came together. Action takes a back seat to the story but that's OK, Billy isn't Jason Bourne or The Accountant. I enjoyed this and the Easter eggs from another popular Stephen King novel.
