my one issue with this book is i think Easton is a snake. She kept ghosting Mallory theb just turned up at the world championship??? I feel like their friendship really didnt feel like actual best friends rather they were decent friends who bonded over a few things

this was the cutest book. it had so many things i hated, like how the female main character is super bad at understanding the other persons feelings even when theyre very obvious, but still none of those things stopped me from loving this book. i think the reason why i loved it as much is because it focused mainly on chess, instead of the romance. i haven’t played chess since i was 10 or so (but i kinda want to re-learn it now) so i can’t tell you if it was written well or not, but i can tell you that the chess rivalry between our two main characters or with the side characters was written really really well, i was on the edge of my seat!!! it was like watching a sports anime, you know that wholesome cute but very exciting type of feeling? it’s been over a week so i can’t really type anything else since i forgot many of the small details i wanted to touch upon. one thing that usually really bothers me in books is when i can easily guess the whole plot like from what’s going to happen to the side characters to the ending, and this book was definitely like that, i was able to see every single thing from miles away, but it honestly didn’t bother me as much this time except an eyeroll. maybe i am starting to see ali hazelwood books for what they are? predictable cute silly comfy romance books? or maybe check&mate was an exception since it focused so heavily on chess instead of the romance? we shall see as i keep on reading more of her books

Gambito na Rainha versão soft, quem nunca viu a minissérie e gostou do livro, eu super recomendo
2ª Leitura: Como poder continuar tão bom quanto da primeira vez que eu li?

If you liked the Queens Gambit you’ll love this read. When you can make chess exciting and romantic you’ve got some real talent! Ali Hazelwood never disappoints. Love her continued writing of female empowerment in male dominated circles. As someone who understands chess but not a fanatic, you would expect to get bored with all the chess talk but she never lost my attention. So good!
