The Write Place

The little tingles I got reading about Mac’s reservation but also desire to fall for Daniel. I knew he was sketchy from him semi-lying as a first impression and just scurrying around certain topics. Personally, I would say red flag and cut my losses. However, thankfully Mac is not me and was brave enough to make a hopeless romantic’s dream become a reality.

Honestly, I loved everything but the title. I appreciate the pun but this book was so much deeper than the normal tropes.

It was fine! Nothing that notable about it though I must say.

This book was a delight! I love finding a new author and The Write Place is exactly what you hope for in a debut. This story is about Mac, a high school English teacher who must accommodate a famous writer in her classroom for several weeks as he attempts to pen his next great novel. Unbeknownst to her department chair (and the rest of the school), Mac and Daniel have met before, and there is definitely chemistry between them. Put in an awkward place, Mac has to teach in front of Daniel every day and pretend like nothing’s happened, but it doesn’t take long for her to realize that Mr. Evans is very hard to ignore.

As a former teacher myself, this book hit close to home as it gives a very realistic perspective of what it’s like to be a teacher. The school characters are believable and the students are authentic representations of real high school students. While reading, I could tell that Samberts writes from her own teaching experience as she writes Mac’s lessons with love and forethought (the short story lesson with Daniel made me SWOON!). It is clear that Mac is a great teacher and truly cares for her classes much like I suspect Samberts does with her own.

But enough about the school atmosphere, we’re here for a romance! The plotting is top notch and if you like a hero that falls hard and falls first, Daniel will be your favorite MMC. Although it’s the playful banter that initially draws Daniel (or should I say Evan?) to Mac, it’s seeing her everyday at work in a place that she loves, that makes him more and more enamored with her. This is the best kind of love story because the romance is built not only on sexual attraction, but on the whole character. It makes those moments between Daniel and Mac that much sweeter. Samberts gives a playful nod to the infamous “only one bed” trope and The Write Place is an open door romance. The intimacy shared between Mac and Daniel is balanced perfectly with the storytelling and makes their classroom and public interactions even sweeter.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes an engaging story with the perfect balance of heart and romance. I also think it would be a great introduction to “a little spice” for someone new to the genre. I received this advanced copy from the author as a giveaway, but was not influenced to write this review in any way. All opinions are my own.

This book is lovely. A sweet romcom with a high school setting and interesting premise. As a first novel for the author, I was very impressed. Loved the banter and look forward to the next one!

Mac and her best friend, Jenny, go to Tony’s (a local bar) where she meets a guy named Evan. Mac is totally interested in this guy Evan but chooses not to share information about herself to a stranger. She just got over a relationship and doesn’t need to jump into one, but she can’t help crushing over how charming Evan is, even though he is only staying in town for 6 weeks.

In fact, they even share a kiss outside and then Mac leaves shortly after and never tells Evan her name because if it was meant to be, they’d meet again.

And do they meet again! Mac, an English teacher, goes to the high school where she is told to go to the office. She finds out that she is going to be shadowed by none other than Evan, who is actually the famous writer, Daniel Evans. Daniel needs to be inspired by his next book and his publishers agree that if he is allowed ro shadow a teacher, then the school will receive new books for the students to read.

Now that Mac and Daniel work in close quarters, what happens with their chemistry? Did that kiss outside the bar make things awkward?

I really enjoyed the book as it flowed really well. The friendship between Mac and Jenny is adorable and you can understand just how close they are. The interactions between Mac and her students are really funny as well because it really captures how well Mac can handle her students and their high school antics.

This was such a cozy, cute rom com that also handles deep topics like grief so well. It’s on KU right now so I definitely suggest picking it up!

Amo grandemente los libros que hablan de libros y de escritura y en este encontramos bastantes reflexiones al respecto; y en general amé este libro. Los personajes son exquisitos. Mi nuevo novio literario es Daniel Evans, él es todo lo que está bien

I need to give this a six stars

This has been on my TBR for a little while and now I want to read it all over again. The magnetism between these two is just incredible and I read chapter 21 just like Mac read the chapter in Daniel's book all those years ago. Thank you Allie for giving us such amazing words to read.
