perfect back to school vibes
This read made my English/Lit major heart so happy! This is the perfect read if you are a teacher or are wanting something with back to school vibes.
Daniel is a author struggling with impostor syndrome. His new book is due soon, and it is on teachers, and he is struggling. His publishing house sets him up to observe a high school English teacher so he can hopefully find the inspiration he needs to finish his book. What he doesn’t anticipate is Mac becoming so much more than his book inspiration, she becomes everything to him. Can he convince her to give him a chance?
Daniel had me SWOONING multiple times, and I loved the banter between Mac and Daniel. I loved how strong and confident Mac was. As a teacher, this was such a good read.

Tropes:
Mackenzie Milcrest is a high school English teacher, comfortable with her job and her life. The only thing she loves more than her students is a good book and a quiet night alone to cozy up and read (which same). Maybe she isn't over the moon happy with life but she's content.
Daniel Evans is a world-famous writer who became a literary hit while still a teenager. Now, a decade later, he's attractive, wealthy and connected… but he is also suffering from a massive writer’s block.
In much need of some unique inspiration, Daniel employs the help of his publisher, who pulls a couple of strings to get him access to his next novel’s setting: a public high school. All he has to do is sit in Mac’s classroom every day and observe her. Strictly for research, of course!
The problem is, Mac can’t keep acting like he’s invisible. Not when the pull he has on her grows stronger every second. Daniel and Mac might start to realize their stories are better written together than apart.
This book was so cute! I was someone who LIVED for english class in high school so this warmed my little literary loving heart. I loved hearing about Mac's teaching philosophy and what she loved in literature. While she taught and appreciated the classics, girl also loved a romance novel. I also loved that literature connected her and Daniel. Mac loves to dig in to writing and make meaning of it, while Daniel loves to create. Seeing them form a bond through their love of words was so special.
This book also touched on grief, mental health and female friendships which I adored. Ultimately a cozy, quick, adorable read that has me so excited to continue with the series.

Mac Milcrest (FMC) is a high school English teacher who is comfortable with her life. She enjoys her job, she works with her best friend, and she's happy... or at least she thinks she is.
Daniel Evans (MMC) is a famous writer who hit the jackpot with writing a literary masterpiece at 18. Ten years later and everyone wants to know about his next book. He would also want to know about his next book since he is experiencing a massive writer's block.
A change of scenery for research should do the trick, so Evans has a front-row seat at a public high school, which is the setting of his next book. Evans will be shadowing Mac in her classroom for research purposes, of course, except their are sparks between them.
My thoughts:
I enjoyed the story and the banter between Mac and Daniel. Mac has had some difficulties the last few years, so she tries to stay within her bubble to protect herself. Her and Daniel falling in love helps both of them learn how to live for themselves, which I think is an important life lesson.
Allie's second book in the series will be released on July 11, and I will be reading it as soon as I get a copy!
Please read the following content warnings and possible triggers
Content Warnings/Possible Triggers:
Death of a Sibling (car accident, in the past, off page)
Trauma
Grief and loss
Workplace harassment
Alcohol consumption
Lying/omission
Student facing social/relationship issues while transitioning (brief and dealt with compassionately by the main character)
Profanity
Explicit, on-page sex

I absolutely loved the story of David and Mac. It’s a feel good love story with such depth to each character. You fall in love with them more and more as the story goes on. Teacher and writer find themselves connected quickly and can’t stop their feelings from growing. I cannot wait to read book two!

After a long week of teaching high school English, Mackenzie encounters a handsome stranger at the bar. They instantly connect, but she declines to go out with him since he is only in town for a few weeks. The next day, she learns that Daniel Evans, a bestselling author whose works have significantly impacted her life, will shadow her for six weeks in preparation for his next novel. Oh, and he is the guy she kissed at the bar last night. Over the next few weeks, the magnetic pull between the two becomes undeniable and undeniably complicated.
This book is just so charming. You can tell how much Samberts cares about these characters. So much of this love story plays out in the classroom as they begin to share pieces of themselves, and the students are more than just background, making you feel how good of a teacher Mac is and what an influence she has on her students' lives. Daniel could easily have been the stereotypical wealthy best-selling author, but he is written with such care and shaped with fears and insecurities that make him vulnerable despite his literary fame. Even during the inevitable third-act conflict, you cannot help but root for these two, the school, the students, and the found families that surround them. If you love a sweet, steamy, slow-burn romance that is also an homage to teaching, books, and writing, this is a great one.

“I believe in things that are real, and this feels real.” ❤️
If you’re looking for a sweet romcom, with just a little bit of spice, look no further!
Mackenzie (Mac) is a high school English teacher who has just found out a famous writer, Daniel Evans, is going to shadow her classroom to help him get out of a writer’s block. Which is totally fine, except for the fact that he’s super charming and super handsome, and he really wants to get to know her on a personal level. She’s scared to enter a relationship where her personal and professional life come together, but can she overlook that?
I absolutely loved everything about this book. This was such a sweet story about two people dealing with real life problems and learning how to fall in love. Mac has a wonderful personality and she’s such an inspirational teacher. Daniel is super sweet, gentle, and patient. Jenny is such a badass and a great friend for Mac. Ken seems like the kind of boss everyone wants. This book made me laugh, tear up, and blush! I absolutely loved reading this book, and watching Mac and Daniel’s relationship evolve throughout.
