Mac and Daniel’s passion for books and English litature so adorably nerdy. I loved that within their first few minutes of meeting they were discussing classic literature. I could feel Allie’s passion for teaching through Mac. She even made me feel like I was back in High School English class a couple times throughout the novel.
I loved Mac and Daniel’s relationship. It felt natural and not rushed. Mac defiantly has some hang ups at the start and Daniel is patient enough to wait for her. They were sweet and spicy. Each of their non dates, just hanging out as friends dates, were adorable, where can I find a guy to read with me at bookstore on a Friday night?
This book felt so real and the characters were so well rounded and developed. Mac and Daniel had their flaws but they brought out the best in each other. Daniel especially had a hard time coming out of a bad and toxic relationship. Mac brought back his confidence in himself and his writing. And Daniel was able to connect with Mac after her siblings passing and made her realize that loving and connecting with people again was ok.
You might want to bring the tissues with this book, it had me tearing up but also laughing and swooning over Mac and Daniel.
Thank you Allie for the ARC I can’t wait for Jenny’s story!

This was an ARC read and I was so pleasantly surprised by it! The banter between Daniel and Mac and the tension that builds during the slow burn really gripped me. It was truly a sweet rom com with a dash of spice and it tugged at my heartstrings throughout. I also loved the addition of Mac’s students and her relationship with them as well as her friendship with Jenny. Multiple parts of this story brought tears to my eyes while simultaneously keeping a knot in my stomach from the romantic tension and my desire to know how it all turned out in the end.

I finished "The Write Place" on the plane and that is the only reason I didn't flat out bawl at the end. Allie's debut novel is a lovely journey though grief, finding your place in the world, and the power of your ride-or-die girlfriend. Real talk... Allie Samberts is a friend. But I feel like I can be honest in saying that she captures that sense of wonder of not just a new relationship, but one you fight like hell to not throw yourself into.

I don't think there is a bad thing I can say about this book, it was near perfect.
Mac is a high school english teacher who is chosen to be shadowed by her favorite author, Daniel, so he can try and break his writer's block. He is also the man she met and kissed at a dive bar over the weekend, not recognizing him (out of context and given a slightly fake name).
Maybe it's because I was a high school teacher for a number of years, where I too met my husband, and I was charmed by the story. It gave a realistic depiction of what it's like to teach, how hard we work, rarely getting a break to even use the bathroom, how we care for our students even though we don't know what fully goes on outside the school, and how we are constantly multitasking and thinking ahead.
The book walked through grief, Mac lost her sister in a car accident three years before the story takes place. There was a non-binary student and other LGBTQ+ representation with a poet. Some funny easter eggs I picked up after following Allie Samberts on Instagram. The teacher drama was even realistic, I don't think some adults leave the high school behavior after they graduate!

I devoured this book! If it wasn't for work rudely interrupting my reading, I would have finished it in one sitting. This book was a feel-good, slow burn that hooked me in the first chapter.
Mac, a high school English teacher, was such a relatable character whose love of literature reminded me of how much I loved reading too. Daniel Evans, a writer struggling to write his next novel, was a true romantic and has been added to my list of favorite book boyfriends. The banter throughout their story made me laugh out loud.
Without revealing too much, I highly recommend this book if you like: cozy small town rom-coms; slow burn; and work place romance.
