I thought this was very good - I didn't understand a great deal of the science and medicine involved but don't feel that matters. It was an exciting story which in places was gruesome and shocking but very believable.

I haven't read any medical/suspense books in ages. My treadmill is next to a bookcase and I just pulled this out and started reading. I've been reading a lot of non-fiction so this was a great distraction. And we know how much I like my medical lingo.

Gravity leads us into the world of NASA as we watch Emma Watson and her team preparing to be sent into space to stay for 4 months on the ISS (International Space Station). Watson is a physician who is in the middle of a ugly divorce from her husband, fellow physician Jack. We can still see the hearts around them when they talk though...angry hearts but hearts nonetheless.

Circumstances occur that cause Emma to be sent into space earlier, with another team. Once there, it's routing space station stuff, until experiments start going wrong. What happens next is an outbreak of "something" that is killing astronauts very quickly and very gruesomely. Everything is fast paced and we learn what this killer bug is at a breakneck speed.

Pretty exciting and fun book to read.

While the character Jack in Gravity was created years and years before the Jack in Lost, I was picturing the actor Matthew Fox as Dr. Jack MacCallum. Nicole Kidman as Emma Watson (a brown-haired Nicole Kidman).

This is not the kind of genre I normally read, but I really enjoyed it.

Gravity be Tess Gerritsen is a science fiction thriller about space exploration and experimentation. It's very unlike the romance or murder mystery novels I've read from Gerritsen in the past. It's well researched and not at all what I expected. Although, I usually don't consider books scary, this book definitely did creep me out to an extent with its brilliant speculative writing.

Emma is a NASA astronaut and physician who immediately after being sent into space is tasked with uncovering a mysterious illness that's infected another astronaut. There seems to have been contamination from one of the research projects, but before a rescue operation is launched, the astronaut dies. The situation on the space station becomes dire as more people are infected and the military takes control away from NASA. What is causing this mysterious illness and can anyone be saved?

This book is everything I love about medical thrillers with a strong sci-fi bonus. Quick-paced, great plot, believable sci-fi. Lots of twists and excitement, my heart was pounding throughout. I'll have to give her other works a try!

An entertaining sci-fi. There were relevant medical information and details about space travel. It was exciting to read about the preparations and training the astronauts undergo and about the launch.

I think, like all thriller writers, Tess Gerritsen doesn't believe in teamwork and doesn't believe in inter-agency cooperation. And she also resorts to the trope of the Hero/Heroine doing everything single -handedly. Jack (on earth) and Emma (on the space station) have to find the treatment and antidote to the deadly infection on their own. Though the top researchers were trying to find a cure and had failed, Jack and Emma quickly manage to find it.
Jack has to rush everywhere to understand about the origin of the contagion (don't know what other NASA researchers were doing). And in the end, he alone had to.... OK, I won't give away the spoiler.

I was laughing when they wake up the PR lady to do some search on a private scientific research lab on Lexis Nexis and give her instructions on what to search for. I didn't know NASA was short-staffed. and that the scientists didn't have access to computers
