I continue to absolutely adore this series. The Wilde family never fails to make me laugh, cry, and swoon. The tension in this one was damned near perfect and I love everything about it. One of these days I'm going to manage to reread the series in the proper order, though..
re-read: doing this in the "proper" order makes everything so much more impactful. this book destroys me every time I read it, though. damn.

I normally never read series out of order but this book was free to buy the other day so I did, and thank god the rest of this series is on kindle unlimited as of now because I AM HOOKED. First of all, if you know me you know that I am simply unable to pass on a book that involves a firefighter, especially if it's romance.
Wilde Fire is the story of Otto Wilde and Seth Walker. It is a second chance romance, Otto and Seth were together in high school but friends for longer. Before their final year of high school Seth moves away and they opt to only send each other letters instead of talking on the phone because they felt that would be too hard. Circumstances lead to them breaking up and being out of each other's lives for 10 years. They reconnect when they move end up moving back to their hometown of Hobie.
“Because I spent ten years mad at you! I’m sick and fucking tired of being mad at you. I love you so fucking much; all I want to do is hold you, goddammit. And touch you and kiss you and suck you off and fuck you on the goddamned grass if I have to. Now come the fuck here.” My voice was booming by the time I got to the end, and Walker’s eyes were wide with surprise.
There are a lot of forces that try to keep Seth and Otto apart, particularly on Seth's family's end. While Seth was away and the main reason for his breakup with Otto, he ended up marrying a woman named Jolie who had been pregnant with his brother Ross' child. Ross, unfortunately, passed away and Seth felt like he needed to step in a take care of Jolie. He promised Jolie 5 years of being together so that he can help raise his niece. His parents have never been supportive of his and Otto's relationship and they constantly try to push him to Jolie despite the fact that Seth is gay and had told his parents and Jolie that their marriage was only supposed to be for 5 years. (It ends up being 10 and the divorce not being finalized until Seth reconnects with Otto). Personally, I thought the whole marriage aspect was kind of odd? I get Seth wanting to step up, throughout the book we see how big Seth's heart is, but I'm not sure him actually marrying Jolie was necessary. It made for good drama though.
Eventually, after Seth's marriage is officially over he and Otto rekindle their relationship. As soon as they get together, there are a string of arons happening across town with the clues leading straight to Otto. This puts a strain on their relationship because as Sheriff, Seth is unable to tell Otto much of anything. Plus, Otto has his own suspicions about the arsonist but opts to keep it to himself in order to protect the person. This part of the story was interesting enough, but I honestly would have rather read more about Seth and Otto reconnecting like going on dates or dealing with Seth's family's nonsense more head on rather than through this plotline.
I did really like Seth and Otto together. I think because this was second chance romance, it was easy to assume they loved each other so there wasn't any need for the build up that normally comes with romance books. They re-establish themselves as together fairly quickly. Seth had such a big heart and he tried so hard to do the right thing. Otto and his whole quirky family were just so enjoyable too.
There were certain moments of the book where we're told what happens first and then showed. It read very documentary style where the narrator would say something like "And then this happened..." then it would be fade to black and the next chapter would lead up to what happened from the others POV. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't exactly love it.
This book was 4 stars because - firefighter Otto, second chance romance, the sex scenes were good, & best friends to lovers trope. I had a lot of fun reading it and I can't wait to get to know the rest of the Wilde family :)
“What?” he asked. “Why are you laughing?” “Because you’re beautiful, you’re here, and you’re mine,” I said.

Seth and Otto finally get their happy ending after 10 years of breakup due to unfortunate circumstances.
Just Enough Angst
Once again I enjoyed Lennox’s work. Otto and Seth are good together. I was completely off about the suspect until the very end. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Just no, after West & Felix I had really high hopes but this was annoying
