This was a slow moving novel about 4 young people’s lives and how the start of WWII changes them all as they navigate a whole new world filled with fear, uncertainty and loss.

While the racism portrayed was indicative of the time period. It was uncomfortable to hear used so casually. I’d rather educate myself than hear it in historical fiction.

Listened to the audiobook. The characters hooked me from the beginning and I couldn't help but love this book. War stories are often hard to read...too dark or too schmaltzy. This book hit the right tone from the get go and never stopped. This was a good one.

This book began with what seemed a light glimpse into wartime London- a very British glimpse- but it didn't take long to take me by surprise. Some of the richest descriptions of the Blitz I have ever read, and a vivid depiction of the life of a soldier in Malta during the siege. A great read, which took my breath away at times and never let me assume that everyone would be alright. Four and a half stars for me.

excellent! It ranks right up there with my favorite books of the last year. So many things to think about. This is a story of how war changes people as well as classes. Conversation and Character driven...slow action. I think I might read it again. I did not want it to end.

Witty characters and a solid storyline, but just not an amazing WWII book the nightingale or all the light we cannot see.

Not a book that I would consider an easy read. It’s a bit wordy and heavy on the descriptions. Overall, a really great book though.

3.5 stars. The author is good at writing but there was something missing in the storytelling somehow and I'm unsure how to describe it. Almost like bad things would happen and you couldn't really tell they did.
