DID NOT FINISH: 30%

I didn't like the writing style. I felt like there were many contraditions within the characters that felt super unrealistic. They had no character- no consistency as a person. I also felt like the writing pulled me away from the story in many areas. The amount of times the main character admitted she was making stupid choices and said something alone the lines of "I briefly wonder what the horror movie they'll make about this will be named" or "i wonder what they'll say in the true crime documentary they'll make about my death" but then kept doing the thing anyway was way too high in the first 30%. Overall I know a lot of people love this book but it wasn't for me.

“When you make someone fall in love with the darkest parts of you, there’s nothing you can do that will scare them away. They will be yours forever because they already love all the fucked up bits and pieces of you.”

My first ever step into the world of dark romance and it didn't disappoint. True, I was scared during the first few chapters but it slowly turned into interest and mostly curiosity - on how she will fall in love with her own stalker. Compared to the other books I've been reading, this is a handful. The book is thick and the letters are small but it didn't stop me from finishing it within a few days because I was into it.

At first, I was WTF-ing all the stalking scenes and all the scenes where you can see Addie being stupid eventhough she herself already thought it aloud how stupid she is and how she's chasing the thrill of being scared. But halfway down, when you can see Zade and his POV come to light and how he have very valid reason of the things he does, you can finally understand him. I hate how I agree with his words because my morals are also wavering as Addie's too. I fucking hate it. At the end of the book, I'm just rooting for the two of them together but fuuuuuuuuck the cliffhanger!!! I knew it was gonna happen because there was a warning of it buuuuuuuut buuuuuut I wanted more. It's a good thing I do have the second book ready to be shipped but I think I'll take a break and simmer down and go back to the normal romances. Let's see if this book somewhat changed my mind regarding dark romance.

This series will stay with me and haunt my dreams and nightmares until i finish the entirety of H.D.Carltons wicked collections.
Her writing is sublime. Her brain is dark, but god, these books are incredible.
This absolutely is a love story, despite what she says.
Reading the triggers prior is a must.

The books were previously banned due to the triggers - but the scenes detailed (in depth) will be happening somewhere, to someone in our world. We deserve to be uncomfortable and shocked. I am so thankful i have never been exposed to a world this dark, but i am well aware this could be someones' past, present, or future.

I hope to god there is a Zane out there fighting for them.

I loved this book so much. Truly did make me question if I should be institutionalized though. Fair warning, it's messed up. Not for the faint of heart. A genuine dark romance. This book has me in a chokehole and I can't escape. For me, the worst warning is that you HAVE to buy both books, the cliffhanger at the end has me pacing back and forth until the bookshop opens and I can get my hands on the second book. I can't wait to reread it.
