In true Belle Époque fashion, The Beautiful Ones is the tale of a darling country girl from a wealthy family who moves into the city of Losail for her first Grand Season. In this brave new world, Nina Beaulieu must navigate the lion's den of the bourgeoisie all the while trying to master her telekinetic abilities while under the scrutiny of the wealthy elite. Surrounded by deceitful vipers, Nina must tread carefully as she searches for a suitable husband. Placing her trust in the wrong people, Nina suffers treachery and heartbreak at the hands of her family and friends, and must overcome her own troubles in order to find happiness.

I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book, and definitely not as much as I did. Silvia's enchanting characters, enticing imagery, and exceptional prose enraptures the reader in a unique story with a familiar feel. A delightful balance of heartbreak and happiness, of romance and repugnance, of devotion and deceit, The Beautiful Ones was an afternoon well-spent, and is worth a read when it's published later this month.

This is a romance book that truly took me through a whirlwind of emotions!
I'm not a huge fan of the trope used, but it is still a beautiful story.
Many of the characters don't develop that much, and the only who has noticeable growth is Nina.

‘We say many things when we are young. Eventually, we grow wiser’

Where do I even start this with absolute GEM of a book? The narrator on audible - amazing performance. Five stars is not enough! Subhanallah, I was enthralled by everything from this book. The setting, the ups and downs - just everything. Hector is my fave and Nina was great. Both are amazing characters with depth. At times, they annoyed me but I still rooted for them. I mean they are both telekinetics - come on, how could I not root for them!

Garcia created a fine Machiavellian with the character, Valarie. Valarie is actually my second fave. With all her callousness, Regina George would wish to learn from Valarie. I did at times feel sorry (a little bit) for her. She was a victim of the societal expectations that did not care for her happiness. However, there are so many ways to grow from that experience and she chose violence with words as her weapon of choice. For my hopeless romantics, this is your next read!

This was unexpected. It was like reading Jane Austen but more modern type of writing? I really enjoyed the story - I found the characters incredibly annoying and flawed but it just added to the drama in this case. The main character Nina was especially childish and immature at the start but the character development was fab. Unexpectedly great!
