Read this as a palate cleaner book, which was what it is good for. Short and sweet, nothing complicated about it, which is what I wanted but outside of that nothing special about it for me.

I loved these characters. This book is very spicy but also very romantic. I wouldn't say insta love but very fast. Loved the ADHD references and could relate.

I didn’t think there were any pet names I didn’t like but I can now add sugar to the list.

3.5 stars!

For the most part, I very much enjoyed Lyla Sage's debut novel. Done & Dusted was funny, tender, steamy and had a whole lot of heart. I love the cast of characters and the setting.

I did feel that the writing quality was a bit lacking — in the sense that there is a lot of telling v showing (ie, bonding between Luke and Emmy especially) and in Luke's POV chapters, it felt very monotone. Often times, I felt like plot points were just stated over and over (IE, Luke saying "I'm fucked" about 50 times).

I would've loved some flashback scenes or other exposition to bolster the romantic connection between the characters, as I do think it was there, it just wasn't explored in a way that really made the reader believe in it — or the tension that comes with the brother's best friend trope. They went from vaguely tolerating each other, apparently, to falling in love immediately.

When the smut is *that steamy* I think you really have to be able to root for the characters, you know? I liked them together but really wanted more scenes to showcase the depth of their connection.

But like I said, it's a debut novel and I think Lyla Sage is a great writer, hopefully she'll continue to grow and I'm excited to read more from her!
