Make sure you grab this newest AMAZING book from Author M.Robinson!!
This is the start of a new series, The Good old Boys. There are times i made me want to hate both Lucas & Alex (the two lead characters in this book), and then it made me cry so bad that I was sobbing and trying desperately to read (have you tried reading through tears at night??? It is NOT fun!)
M. Robinson delivered the feels in this book once again. Lucas (aka Bo) and Alex (aka Half-Pint or Alexandra) have been friends their whole lives. However when things start to change, everything goes sideways and gets complicated. The question becomes, can these two people grow up, get older and continue their relationship and remain friends??? Grab this book and fall in love, hate and love again with the Good Old Boys, and especially Lucas & Alex

Copy gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have not read anything by Ms Robinson or to be honest even heard of her until this tour blog. And I'm so glad that I have broken my own word to myself with NO MORE ARC till end of November ;) The book pulled me in straight away. I really expected a story after Alex engagement. Not a whole story from the beginning! But I just love LOVE that! Because I was so shocked and it made the story even more enticing!

In here we meet Alex, Half-Pint - as called by her 4 best friends. Even though she loved every single boy in their group one of them was the one that always been there for her and made her heart flutter. With only one of them she had that magical bond. Lucas, Bo as she called him. He was the one that she always found comfort in.

Their love story is a really complicated one. It shattered me, made me sob, made my heart bleed but also it cause so many positive emotions. I felt like I'm riding a long rollercoaster. There was no end. And the story had so many twists and turns that I was dizzy like I really ridden on one!

The whole book I was so frustrated with everyone who was telling Alex and Lucas that it's either too early, they can't be together, she is like a sister, she is too good, you are a bad boy...yada yada. I wanted to scream at all of them to shut it and let them make their own mistakes! To let them live their own life. And then came Cole! Gah.he annoyed me so much. I get it. He was the good boy and so on. But in the end he was not so good for her. He wanted to have a trophy not person that he loved.

I loved when Alex asked him: Are you in love with me?

So many people thinks that loving someone and being in love are the same things. But they are not! Being in love is like a hurricane. Even though it leaves destruction, after it there is always a fresh beginning.

I loved the story. The angst that M. created were just perfect for me! I definitely will be one-clicking all her books and stalking her page for the book 2 in the series as it will be HILARIOUS :D

5 big, huge complicated stars! <3

Ok hear me out. I started this book, read up to chapter 2 and then I put it down—not because it was terrible but because I read a review and it turned me off to the book. HOWEVER, I am all for everyone having an opinion on a book because every book has a different effect on each reader. SO as soon as I got myself together, I picked it back up last night and I had to FORCE myself to go to sleep. If I didn’t have shit to do today, I would have just stayed up and finished it. Ugh. ADULTING IS NOT IT.

I was graciously gifted this book by M & her team since the cover was recently changed and let me tell you. The new covers do the book justice. Absolutely love them. Now going into my review...I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK. I loved the story, the main characters, and UGH the side characters.

Let me tell you what I loved:
•The friend group. The friend group and how they were with each other were my favorite. I esp loved how protective they were of Alex. YES. Alex is the glue of their friend group and the relationship she has with each of them was so pure and beautiful. I loved her description of each of them and how well they all knew each other.
•I loved Lucas and Alex’s friendship. I loved how in tune they were with each other, how close they were, how they always found their way to each other no matter what. Their friendship pissed me off at times because WHY. HOW ARE YOU BOTH LIKE THIS? LOL Esp Lucas, ugh. I loved him, but sometimes he just made me mad.
•The character development especially the development of side characters. It made me want to read the other books in the series
•THE ANGST. Omg. Leave it to M to make a friendship to lovers book angsty af. AND I WAS HERE FOR IT.
•The push and pull was well written. The timing was never right for them, but it worked for this story. Though I did start to hate M about 70% into the book I was like “Girl...just let them be happy

This book is a passionate and intense tale exploring the love story of two best friends. Lucas and Alex spent their entire lives loving each other, sometimes quietly and sometimes out loud. Their friendship was so cute but when they started growing up, experiencing adolescence, they got the shock of tackling life in the change of their bodies and as well as life decisions. So when they were old enough to realize that their relationship transcends beyond friendship, that's when things went wrong

I loved this book. I loved the angst, the pain, and the love between the characters. But too much angst is accompanied by too much drama.

Things I didn't like:
1.
Lucas ignoring his feelings for her Alex and whoring himself out for other girls. Technically he succumbed to usual teenage hormonal urges but he always knew how he felt about Alex so he should have restricted himself
2. Too much nonsense about how Alex is too young. Bro, please. Lucas was a kid too. It shouldn't have made him be very righteous
3. Overprotective de facto brothers. Jacob, Dylan, and Austin. Especially the former two. Always trying to warn Lucas away from Alex saying she's too young and He's not good for her.
4. Their own parents warning them away. Again saying they are both young and should experience life before settling into something so permanent. They didn't necessarily want them apart but the way they warned Lucas made him think that getting together with Alex was wrong.
5. Ex-girlfriend drama. Obviously, there would be that clingy gf leading Lucas away from Alex.
6. Also ex-gf getting pregnant. This was kinda predictable because I read a similar childhood best friends to lovers book previously where the guy was incapable of keeping his dick inside his pants Or even using a condom for that matter. So here, Lucas sees Alex and Cole together, gets jealous, and impregnates Stacey. Awesome.
7. Lucas being plain stupid most of the time.

Things that I liked
1. Overprotective de facto brothers. It was kinds of sweet how those 3 protected and loved Alex like their own sister. Although too much sometimes.
2. No cheating thank god. Even when Alex started dating Cole or got engaged to him.
3. The love between two young hearts that blossomed into something beautiful. Even when they faced all the ugliness.
4. Cole was a nice guy. He was there for Alex when Lucas was being a jerk. I don't consider this a love triangle because there was no question whom Alex loved with her whole heart. Also liked the way they broke up. No fuss or drama
5. Totally excited to see Jacob and Lily. That's gonna be interesting for sure.

Final Verdict: Loved the book. Contains many of my favorite tropes. Totally excited to continue the series.

Update
Okay so after a lot of thinking and also after reading the second book I realized how so many things were wrong in this book. In order to make it angsty, the author actually ended up making the heroes , in this book and the second one complete assholes. The plot dragged and dragged about why they couldn’t be together but I STILL DIDNT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY COULDNT BE TOGETHER. WHY?? Their immaturity and youth, especially Lucas’ was too toxic. He knew and understood everything. He knew he loved Alex. Yet, he’s trampled on her heart and slept with other girls but never her. But he loved her. What BS.

Also hated how their parents aided them into making the wrong decisions and encouraged Lucas to stay away from Alex. Also Alex should have stood up to Lucas.

And when I said I was excited to read about Jacob and Lily, we’ll that was a super let down. What a stupid and jerk of a guy.

07/08/21
Final Verdict I have mixed feelings about this book. While the young love was cute, the push and pull was annoying. The level of ignorance was annoying. And Lucas was an asshole.

Heavily steeped in toxic masculinity, and sexist stereotypes, not to mention the fact that there's too much OW/OM drama throughout that the two protagonists are barely together happily on page. Not the book for me.

While it is just the beginning of a wonderful series it will always be one of my favorites. The reader learns all about the four Good Ol’ Boys and their humble beginnings but it is the love affair between Bo and Half-Pint that is center stage in this heartwarming coming of age love story. M. Robinson has a way of drawing the reader in and not letting go. I immediately needed to read the next book in the series.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. There were parts that were amazing and blew me away. And there were parts that left me bored and unsatisfied. The book started out okay for me but by 30% it kinda lost me. I felt like there was just so much over explanation of their childhood. It really took a long time to get to the good stuff. The hero and heroine weren't even together until the last 5% of the book. There was so much added to the story that just seemed unnecessary to me.

M. is one heck of a storyteller though. I can see how well thought out this novel was. I get what she was trying to do, unfortunately for me it just didn't work. I am definitely interested in reading the next story in The Good Ol' Boys series, it was set up beautifully at the end of Complicate Me.
