An enjoyable read that earns 4 stars. It shines best during the suspenseful moments. Suspenseful writing is where Grisham shines! It does drag on in some sections, the exposition was somewhat weak in my opinion. There was a part where something tragic happens to the main character’s body, and it doesn’t seem to hinder his journey. I was surprised because the author dedicates several words to this part of the character’s body during the start of the book. It didn’t really add to the main character for me, hence the weak exposition. I am trying to convey my frustration without spoiling the book.

Don’t let my review deter you, this book deserves a read. Conceptually, Grisham had a great idea and executed it pretty well. It is worth reading because of the layers that Grisham sets up and executes all in one —albeit fat— volume. This book could have easily been a series; I am happy to see that it is done!

Next book, plz ;)

This is one case where I’m guessing the movie might be better than the book. The book was just soooo long. 20+ years ago I think people had longer attention spans. Phones have ruined me ha. The story was good, just long. And a LOT of players in the story. Hard to keep track on an audiobook. Also, the ending made me mad. And I mean the actual ending, like the last paragraph. He needed to come clean to his wife!

Ughhhhhhhh, I'm trying to find a good legal thriller and doesn't piss me off.

forgetfulwords's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

Main character cheated on his wife. I know the narrative is going to punish him for it, but I hate reading about cheating and it turned me off the character.

This book is creepy, fascinating, indulgent, and absolutely wonderful. One of his best.

I've decided that Grisham should cut out the middleman and write screenplays instead of novels.

I got Magic In Her Kisses by Ruan from BookSirens for a fair and honest review.

Magic In Her Kisses by Ruan Willow tells the story of a Lesbian BDSM Age Gap Romance Between a nerdy professor Dr. Maddie Lillian and student Alicia her student

For me as a reader Magic Kisses is a novel that is divided into two sections the first is Basically going from one sex scene to the next, while these scenes are written with sensitivity and full respect between the Alicia and Maddie, there is little or no character development throughout this part.

While the second half did have a bit more of a story line with Alicia and Maddie and the issues connected with both the development of the internal relationship,

As well as how family and friends deal with an age gap relationship between a professor and student, although this is mainly done through the eyes of Alicia’s mum, and seemed to be settled over a 5 seconds of messaging between them. Which did seem rather abruptly probably caused by the nature of the length of the story.

All this means is that Magic In Her Kisses by Ruan Willow is for people who enjoy an erotic BDSM, FF romance between a college student and her professor, done with seronegativity then this is for you.

DNF 70%. Maybe this just wasn’t my type of book, but I found myself struggling to stay interested. The conversations were too long, the progress felt slow, and there were too many characters to keep track of. Some parts were great, but honestly, I gave up.

It is no surprise The Firm is often regarded as one of the finest (legal) crime thrillers ever written. Crime novels aren't usually my go to genre, but this book was so smartly written, so engrossing and always advancing at what felt like a breakneck pace I was hooked from the get go. From the first chapter right through to the very last, this novel doesn't let up, it doesn't slow down and it keeps you on your toes. What seems like a very "standard" crime plot (put simply, its a case of "too good to be true" with Mitch Mcdeere joining the "dream" firm, which of course, it isnt), is so cleverly written and a brilliantly told story overall.
I'm generally a slow reader, but I powered through this book after the first couple of chapters!
I could not recommend this book enough if you are into your crime novels, particularly as this is often regarded as a "classic" in the genre.
Safe to say I'll be reading more of Grisham's novels from now on!
