I’ve had this book on my radar for YEARS since I saw a booktuber talk about it. But I could never find it. But then I saw it available as an ebook and I knew I had to read it finally!!
I really enjoyed this one! I liked Cherrise and Kieran. I liked how we saw both sides. I wish we saw them talk about why they really disliked each other for so many years and explored that part more.
I loved getting to read a book set in a completely new place for me like Trinidad, it was so cool! And the small town charm is always great. Also the fact that Cherrise named her cat Jello.

Cake + enemies to lovers trope = a funny, sweet debut novel. This was a very enjoyable read with alternating pov’s for the two leads Cherisse and Kieran. They both had really good, sizzley chemistry and were very likeable. The supporting characters were all very entertaining and the author did a good job of world building as well. Look forward to more in this series. (4 ⭐️)

This was a cute story. I loved the Trini representation and island culture all throughout. And I also really appreciated the queer representation throughout the book since there is a negative stigma in Caribbean culture about the LGBTQIA+ community.
It was easy to root for Cherisse and Keiran out of the gate. Cherisse was a bit more charismatic, but Keiran falling first gave him some bonus points.
I would definitely consider this a slow burn, however the ending didn’t stick the HEA landing as well as it could have. It left more to be desired. An epilogue about them functioning as an actual couple along with an update on how everyone in their chosen community and immediate family accepted them would have been the perfect bow on top.

I pre-ordered the ebook like a year ago but it took me forever to actually get around to it. The premise sounded interesting and the cover is gorgeous but um like 5 seconds in I already knew I wasn’t going to like this. I don’t know if it was because I started with the audiobook or if it’s that I’m just not a fan of the enemies-to-lovers troupe. Which I didn’t know before this book but maybe it’s just this particular book. Is there a reason why Cherisse and Kerian dislike each other so much? Nope there’s reason for it they just want to be annoying for no reason. In the way a child might be mean to another child because they secretly like them. Since these people are grown adults it’s annoying. And really first chapter Cherisse letting one little comment from him make her doubt herself like that I was just like oh this isn’t gonna end up going anywhere good down the line. Him basically trying to talk someone out of dating her? Like I said this is some childhood playground stuff but with adults and that I find irritating. And of course because they don’t like each other they have to be thrown together a bunch for the wedding of her sister and his best friend that they are maid of honor and best man at. Blah blah shenanigans it’s a romance you pretty much know how things end up. Maybe I’m the problem it’s possible but it was just ok I guess. The cover though beautiful love it.
This was good, but a little too slow in the pacing. I’m hoping the next book in the series will be a little faster paced.
