Another Stephen King read!

As always, the writing was really good. I really liked the characters. They felt real and interesting. I really liked the concept of this book as well, it held such a creepy atmosphere. This book was terrifying at times. It even gave me a nightmare when I read it before bed. However, the book was just a bit too long for the amount of action that we got. The pacing was very slow, especially around the middle, while the ending was quite fast. It felt like it would have been more enjoyable if it was more even or a bit shorter. I really like the realistic setting with some unsettling, otherwordly presence. Near the end there was more paranormal action, which was less my thing.

Overall, 3/5.

4.5 great book

Pet Sematary was not what I expected and that's neither a good thing or bad thing. In classic King style, I was hooked from the very first page and found the entirety of this book compulsively readable. I just did not want to put this book down. Even when I knew the danger was coming, even when I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach it, I just wanted to read and read and read.

I am continuously impressed with the characters that King creates and how he makes me care for each and every one of them. I think that is a major reason why I can breeze through a book this size that doesn't really have any action until the 70% mark. I was never bored, I was never tired of the seemingly needless details...I just ate this whole shit up.

That being said, wow. This book was rough. It was brutal and gut-wrenching. I don't know if it's a book I could stomach rereading. I was surprised by the hopeful ending of The Shining and was a little caught off guard with the bleak ending of Pet Sematary.

This book leaves me with one message...I'm very glad I am childfree by choice. I don't ever want to experience what Louis and Rachel went through.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars

It was an absolute rollercoaster of a read in a good way. The book was gorey, horrifying and gruesome. It raised some highly questionable moral dilemmas. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone who wants to read truly disgusting horror.
