Four stars for the art alone. I mean it. The art and the art only.
The story starts with a fantastic horror premise but quickly hits a wall where suspense is concerned; namely, there is no suspense in the writing whatsoever, and a story that could have spanned a much longer and more uncomfortable book instead plays out with safe efficiency in 100 pages. Any and all tension stems entirely from the fantastically visceral art by Ben Templesmith. I really can't say enough about the level of fear and otherworldly anguish he managed to inject into each spread, but it unfortunately can't compensate entirely for the yawn of a plot, the sort that just glances off you without making any impact. I won't be reading any others in this series, but I will definitely be checking out more of Templesmith's work.

I wanted to read this graphic novel before the movie came out. I love the artwork - it's gritty, dark and beautiful. Very original concept, but don't expect a long, involved story with extensive character development. Enjoy it for what it is: a quick read with a fresh, new storyline and impressive art.

Mary Gave this to me for Christmas, the first book is signed by the author and artist. That was a surprise for both of us :)

Salah satu cerita vampir modern yang paling memorable, terutama sering ditayangkan dulu di saluran TV waktu tengah malam wkwk. Finall bisa baca original storynya hehe.
Dari segi art style mungkin bukan selera aku sih jujur, terlalu kasar gambarnya. Meskipun begitu berhubung latarnya badai es terutama waktu malam, jadi secara atmosphere emang cocok.
Sedangkan dari segi cerita hampir sama seperti film sih, walaupun pacenya bisa dibilang sangat cepat. Jadi tanpa basa basi intro langsung loncat di hari terakhir sebelum malam panjang di Barrow.
Jujur menurutku 30 DoN salah satu adaptasi vampir modern yang paling serem sih wkwk, terlebih kalau di movie banyak pengembangan yang bikin vampirenya terasa kuno sama liar, gak elegan kayak Dracula wkwk.
Meskipun begitu, kekurangan utama dari komiknya ya karena pacing itu, andai ceritanya dibuat dalam format novel pasti bakal lebih bagus, karena waktu 30 harinya tuh kalau di komik bener2 kerasa cepet, kurang kerasa moimentum dreadnya.
Terlepas itu, gw masih suka sama komiknya dan menurutku ini bagus banget regardless of it’s flaw.

Selain itu motivasi tiap karakternya agak membingungkan sih, terlebih penduduk kota yang masih bertahan walaupun tahu mereka menjadi sasaran empuk bagi para Vampire. Sedangkan motivasi para Vampire untuk kembali menyerang Barrow adalah untuk membalaskan dendam pemimpin mereka yang tewas dalam peneyerangan sebelumnya.
Dari segi action jauh lebih kerasa wkwk, terlebih lo and behold! a fircking GUN!! Like tf?! Para vampire pakai senjata api, dan manusianya pun sama, malah jadi perang bjir wkwk. Gw baca ngakak pas bagian itu, ya kinda fun lah walaupun lack of any new ideas.
