I might just not be a graphic novel because everything moved REALLY fast for my taste. The illustration style is soooo good for this story though. I wish the vampires spoke in their own language like in the movie though 😣 or like we were told they’re doing so because it kind of cheapens them to say things typical villains would.
I watched the movie first, not knowing it was an adaptation from a comic. I loved the movie and how tightly packed the characters & setting felt, so when I saw the comic for 5$ at the thrift store, I nabbed it. I absolutely love this comic, the art style is frantic and you feel like you're just as trapped as all the humans in town.
majorly disappointing. the film is one of my favorites of all time, and the comics lack the claustrophobic, tense atmosphere, and suspense and dread that the movie does so well to set up. the art borders on infuriating and the pacing is nonexistent; the characters exist, sure, but there's little substance to them. the transition from plot point to plot point makes little sense, whereas in the film, everything arrives at a natural conclusion, an emotional and heartbreaking climax that digs into you. probably not worth it to continue the series, imo.

I’ll be honest: I read this because I liked the movie. I watched it recently, found out it was based on a comic, and then I read that comic. I’m not going to pretend this is better than the movie; they were both great in their own ways. The movie did a lot more for character development, and expanded on what it was like living in Barrow during the vampire attack. Also, Josh Hartnett played an excellent Eben. The comic on the other hand, made the vampires seem a lot less savage and much more intelligent, and the writing paired with the art style made for a quick and easy, yet spooky read. The art is…odd, but it fits the story really well, and really added to the grim ambiance that the writing created. When it comes down to it, both the movie and the comic have their strengths, and I highly recommend both things.
