An excellent sequel to A Memory Called Empire - Mahit returns to her station, but is soon embroiled in Teixcalaanli interests once again as she helps to open communication with an alien species. Mahit struggling with the influence of Teixcalaanli culture in her life and her true place in the world are so well done.

Not sure if I think it's less than the first book, or just didn't hit me as hard as I read them back to back, but still very good

I loved this book even more than A Memory Called Empire, and I really enjoyed A Memory Called Empire. I think it's the multiple perspectives, already knowing (and loving) the culture and characters, and the first-contact scenario that make this book even better than the first.

We follow Mahit and Three Seagrass as they are once again caught up in imperial politics, this time involving an unknown and incomprehensible alien enemy, as well as Station and Ministry of War machinations. This book pulls you in with its excellent characters, complexly woven plot, and rich worldbuilding - I picked it up two days ago and couldn't put it down until I was finished. I only wish this was a trilogy, rather than a duology - I want more!
