This took 8 days shy of five months to read. It was hard to get into and I found that the story just dragged on and on. There seemed to be so much more filler than the other books.
The final battle was very disappointing. It was over in less than a page. At least the characters were true to themselves.

I've been waiting four years for this book to come out and Horowitz did not disappoint!
Since the fourth book left on a major cliffhanger, Horowitz kept us waiting four years with a lot of 'what ifs' in our head. It picked up straight from where the fourth book left off, starting with all of the Five separated, and into the future.
Before this book was even out, Horowtiz had mentioned that there was going to be a betrayal and not all of the Five would make it. If you've read the series, it was probably obvious who the betrayal would come from, but Horowtiz added a great twist at the end of it that I didn't see coming, so even though lots of people would suspect the same person, there was an element of surprise there as well.
This book was gruesome, and I mean gruesome. You can tell why he is called the master of horror. It's set in sort of a dystopian, futuristic world where the Five find themselves ten years into the future with the world almost half destroyed thanks to the Old Ones. People are slaughtered regularly and it's become a sort of dictatorship.
I did find some bits of this book to be a bit long winded, I just think it could've been a bit shorted but not too much. I liked how the book was split up into parts and focused on each of the Five Gatekeepers before bringing it all together for the final battle at Oblivion.
All in all, I love the way the series has ended.

My least favorite of the series. Mediocre book in an otherwise great series.
