Somewhat lacks personality and oopmh when compared to prior volumes. Still pretty though.

Solid Vader story

I love the fill in this entire run gives to the early period of Vader’s service to the Empire. Great stories.

Nostalgic

Vader destroys the competition. It's also interesting to see how he instills loyalty into people. Especially within Queen Trios. High ground anyone?

I don't ask much of Star Wars graphic novels--which is good, because in general they don't have much to offer. The only series Marvel has been successful with in the new canon is Kieron Gillen's Darth Vader. Gillen finds exactly the right balance between the sinister and the ridiculous, especially in the team of unashamedly nasty people (and droids) Vader draws to his team. It's fun to watch Vader being put into difficult situations, and to read Gillen's spot-on, terse dialogue.

That's all true in this third volume, The Shu-Torun War, though it's the weakest segment of the ongoing story so far. In part this is because Vader's companion, archaeologist Dr. Aphra, is absent for the whole story. But also, the situation Gillen creates for Vader this time is a little too fragmented and indistinct. I appreciate that he's tried to create an interesting world with its own long history, but I just wasn't very interested in it.

I'll keep up with the Vader series as I can (thank you, public library!), but I hope it picks up again in the next volume.

Marvel is seriously on a roll with their Star Wars line. The plans are for one more Vader book only, which is both exciting and saddening. Sometimes it best to end of a high note. Recontextualizes Vader, his badassery and relationship with the Emperor. A must read for all Star Wars geeks.

I loved this volume. The supporting cast is awesome. Great story and great secondary plot lines keep things moving along nicely. Great art work as well is the whipped cream on top!

The Shu-Torun arc is one of the best things about the Star Wars 2015 comic run, and Kieron Gillen comes through!

Darth Vader arrives on the world of Shu-Torun to hasten the mining operations there. While there he must recover from a plot to kill him. In the process he deposes the old king and raises up his daughter to be the new ruler. The rebellion on the planet, doesn't end there however, and Vader must use his persuasive talents to bring them fully under the empire's control.

An interesting story filled with action. The most intriguing element is how the newly risen queen's character is developed.
