Oh my lord. This was just bad. From the start the prose was clunky and clichéd. Then the author's lack of understanding of women, psychology or psychotherapy started to show. A LOT. Considering it's a book about a woman and her psychotherapist this is unacceptable. But I held out for the twist everyone said was amazing. I'm telling you right now, if you want to read this book for the twist, DON'T. It's so ridiculously stupid-- it makes absolutely no logical sense and you see it coming from a mile away. Just go read some other thriller that's not totally insufferable and completely illogical.

Without giving spoilers I already disliked the main protagonist, Theo the psychotherapist, from the start. His tone was arrogant and egotistical, with just enough grandous savior complex that made me feel icky. Most of the characters were unlikable, but despite this Alicia's story did redeem her for me at the end.

I hate this book. Using women’s pain just to deepen a male character is something I can’t forgive. The twist is boring. The guy was boring. I wish she was the mc instead.
