Multiple POVs, same timeline. Becca is a detective who is raising a daughter with Down Syndrome on her own. Her mother helps while Becca focuses on her career and moving up in the department. She feels guilty for not being a better mother, but she needs to excel in her career. She has been presented with the opportunity to work a double homicide to prove herself. What will this case cost her.
Joe is a super-recognizer with the department. He is part of a team that studies human faces, recognizes them and is able to help secure arrests based on photographic memory of faces. He is assigned to help Becca look through CCTV footage and catch a killer. But Joe has other things on his mind as well, like looking for his sister who has been missing for 26 years. He uses his job to look through faces in hopes that he will recognize her.
Then there is the killer they are tracking down. You get to see a lot from his perspective as well. This really enhanced the story and left the reader wondering more about what happened to trigger his course of violence. Overall, all three characters were developed well.
As these two characters come together to solve this case, I came to love seeing them work together. The kind of team you want to see more books written about. With Joe’s memory and Becca’s investigative skills, they would solve lots of crimes. This was a decent read for me although I found myself struggling to focus at times and getting lost in the descriptions. The story was great, and the characters were very likable… well except the bad guy of course!

I loved this book and read it in one sitting. Each time I read a Marrs thriller I have a knot in my chest from beginning to end. This one is no different. Marr tela a story of obsession. Each character is obsessed in their own way. As obsession force Becca and Joe struggle with both their personal and professional lives, while the suspect’s actions devolves. The story is both nailbiting, compelling and unputdownable. A definite read.
