3.5 ish/maybe 4 stars. Subverted tropes and had a compelling plot and writing + portrayals of guilt, but had elements a little too unreal for the rest of the story

4.5⭐️!  I really enjoyed John’s tribute to first responders and law enforcement. This was a fast-paced, rather gory, twisted tale but John still managed to raise awareness for macular degeneration and the lifelong effects of childhood trauma. Well done!

I have read five mystery/thrillers in a row and each one was less satisfying than the one before. Time for a pallet cleanse!

Summary:
“He hides in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment. Each kill is calculated, planned and executed like clockwork. Struggling to balance her personal and professional life, young DS Becca Vincent has landed the biggest case of her career — and she knows that it will make or break her.”

I really enjoy John Marrs books. This was my second of his and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the characters and found the idea of being able to recognise every face really interesting! It was perfectly paced for me and I flew through this. I would really recommend this book.
