Micah Carter and Janie Vivian. It has always been the two of them. As the synopsis said, they are the opposites of one another. But I don't think they are that different.
The book tells how Micah struggles to remember what happened on his best friend, Janie. Every few pages is an alternating chapter of past and present days, it tells the story on both Micah and Janie's point of view. What happened to Janie Vivian? That was the question all the readers will be asking while reading this book.
[What I think (contains spoilers)]
I don't have much to say about this book. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. It isn't a book that I will never forget. It doesn't have a huge impact either.
I think the correct question one should be asking while reading this was 'Why did it happen to Janie Vivian?'
First few pages and I already hate Janie. You can't blame me, though. I've read the book with an open mind, anticipating that maybe she will change, I mean, she has to, right? That was the book was about, or I thought that's what it should be about. Good change.
I think it's unfair how Micah was so overly in love with Janie and that he'll actually do anything for her, everything. He puts up with everything that Janie wants. But really, what does HE want? I feel like I haven't seen the whole of Micah Carter. If that was it, then I'm really disappointed. I wanted to see a bigger world for Micah, I think he deserved that much. He deserved more that Janie Vivian.
"Janie Vivian is a bitch"
It was written on a stone that was in her pocket she died. I think that much is true. How can she go running after a guy while she had Micah waiting for her. She knew he would wait, that's all what Micah does, wait for Janie Vivian. I was thinking what could've happened if Micah ran away with Janie. Would she still have made the same decision? Would she drag Micah with her? Would they just go back to her old house? However it is ending I think she'll just go deeper and deeper in the 'darkness' she is in now.
Why didn't she want anyone to know she was friends with Micah? She's not a ninja like she claims to be, I think she's a little monster. I don't know but I feel horrible for Micah.
[Would I recommend it?]
All in all I think it's new and refreshing. It shows that protagonists aren't always good people, they aren't perfect. Yes, I will recommend it, but not to everyone. I'll just recommend to those who wants to read something that isn't as cliche as most books are now. This is a bit of fresh air. However, I wouldn't recommend this to sensitive people, since this might trigger them.

Loved, loved, loved the writing style and dorky Micah (huge pity he wasn't developed much as a character as one of the main protagonists?!) but also disappointed at the plot, the prevalent drinking, and the predictability.

Meh. It just felt too obvious from the very beginning. The bad thing that happens to her felt contrived and the stones seemed forced. I'm sure, though, that many people will like this book. Not for me.
I received a copy of This is Where the World Ends from HarperCollins New Zealand to review. I have Falling into Place by Amy as well that I purchased last year but I’ve never read it.
This book was a very fast read for me but it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. I couldn’t connect with Janie, she was way too over the top. I didn’t understand why she wanted to keep her friendship with Micah a secret if he meant so much to her. And everything was on Janie’s terms, I don’t get why Micah put up with her to be honest. I’m not sure I would have if she was my friend.
I did feel for Janie with what happened to her and I do kind of understand why she thought
no one would believe her but that’s no reason not to tell anyone. And her plan for revenge was really stupid.
I think the only problem I had with Micah was that he just went along with whatever Janie wanted to to, even when he knew it was a stupid idea.
I did like how the book was told. I had no idea what was going on and did want to keep reading to figure out what was happening. The story was told through Janie’s perspective in the past and Micah’s in the present. I’ve read another book that was told this way but I can’t remember what book it was.
I think the reason I didn’t like this book was because I couldn’t connect with Janie and Micah. I find when I can’t connect with the main characters in a book that it puts me off them and the book. It would have been an interesting story if either of the main characters were likable. I did like the story and like I said before I wanted to know what happened to Janie and Micah but that didn’t help me with the characters.

I figured that there's too much hate the world could offer and you just have to live with it, you just have to stay strong amidst everything because if you let the hate of the world penetrate you, it will drag you down and down you go. Janie, oh Janie. Why did you let them get in to you and poison your whole being.
