I am so thankful for authors like Mick Herron! I was at a bit of a low point, not finding much to inspire the joy of reading in me, when Spook Street, the fourth in Herron’s Slough House series popped up on my Overdrive library app. Amazingly the book was mine for the borrowing and I dove right in. Mick Herron is one of those authors who has managed to keep the character and plot development going from strength to strength in this series. The spooks at Slough House are ‘losers’, rejects from MI5, shuffled off to perform mundane and mindless tasks rather than getting pensioned off. The thinking being they’ll quit. Each of the ‘slow horses’ experiences this sense of futility in different and often explosive ways. River Cartwright’s current problem is with his grandfather’s memory loss. His grandfather, affectionately called O.B. (short for Old Bastard) a spook from the Cold War days knows where a lot of bodies are buried. River is concerned that the O.B. will start telling these secrets to people who might not want information leaked. Are there people who in fact might want him silenced forever? Read on to find out. If you haven’t started at the beginning of the series, do so now!

Excellent!
Best Slough House book I have read so far - I am reading in order. Looking forward to seeing Gary Oldman get hold of this storyline.

Of the 4 so far, I think this may be the strongest. Although the first 2 lacked punch because the Apple TV series follows very closely.
