I received a ARC copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads
Wow. Just wow. I just finished my ARC copy of Just Like Fate for free, courtesy of Goodreads First Reads, and it was amazing. Simply amazing. I loved the idea of different scenarios of what would of happened depending on whether she stayed or went. I have to say I preferred the "Go" scenes, just because I liked Chris and the relationship between him and Caroline so much.
I liked most of the characters, although I liked Natalie and Chris best. Chris and Natalie had different layers and I think had the greatest character development of everyone. I liked Caroline well enough though, don't get me wrong. She was great. I enjoyed how the relationships were built up between her and her dad, and her and Natalie.
I loved the style of writing too. It flowed very smoothly and was entertaining. I never really got bored with it. The only reason I stopped reading it was because I had to eat dinner. Otherwise I would of just sat on the couch and read it nonstop. I finished it within the day I received it in the mail. It was that good.
I was already familiar with, and was a fan of, Cat Patrick. I wasn't as familiar with Suzanne Young, but there wasn't really a noticable difference between them. I assume one wrote the "stay" chapters and the other wrote the "go" chapters, but I'm not sure who wrote which.
The epilogue was perfect, in my opinion. At first, though, i was confused. I was like "Wait which of the scenarios actually happened?" Then I got it. It was like River Daley said "We end up where we need to be in the end." It didn't matter which scenario actually happened. It ended the same either way. Just like fate.
Anyway, I would strongly recommend reading this book. You won't be disappointed. I hope this review was helpful! Sorry if it was connfusing, I'm not the best at writing reviews!
PS How cool is the cover?!?!?! Just saying. :)

This book is getting four stars instead of five for two reasons:
1. The ending. It felt like the epilogue could have been for either timeline. I know that was the point the author was trying to show but I didn’t enjoy that. I felt like if you make such life-changing choices, how can your timeline converge again like that? She met her soulmate in both timelines, just at different moments. It made her choice feel insignificant.
2. The Joel timeline. I get that we needed to see how inconsiderate Joel was but what the heck was with that timeline? Why was he so inconsistent about what he wanted and why did he want Caroline? It seemed so weird the entire time and then the break-up was anti-climactic. “This is it, huh?” What the heck? You were so gung-ho about this girl and no you just don’t care?
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Chris. He was the highlight of this book. He made me LIKE Caroline because at first I thought she was flaky. But seeing her interact with him, I found her funny and charismatic.
So overall, it was a good read. I enjoyed my time reading it. I just really wish the last quarter of the book kept the diverging timelines and didn’t converge back together. I am fine with her getting closer to her family but I felt like meeting Chris in both timelines ruined it for me. It basically made the plot go from “follow your heart” to “your choice doesn’t matter.” Not a great tag line...huh?

An interesting concept. I do like the message a the end, that all choices are significant but that no one choice is going to derail you from the life you were meant to live. However, the plot and writing were a little immature at times and could use some depth and refinement. A cute read.
This book was surprisingly good. I was a little dubious about the premise: Caroline's grandmother is dying, and she's faced with the choice to stay by Gram's deathbed or to go out to a college party with her friend. The following chapters alternate, telling the story of how her life would go if she made one choice or the other. Every other chapter is a "Stay" chapter and then a "Go" chapter.
But it's not as shallow as it sounds. Caroline's choice isn't simple or obvious and the author doesn't pass judgement on which choice is right. Instead, the book explores how different decisions can lead you to different paths, and how one choice can affect your life. And yet, ultimately these two different paths can lead to the same destination, and making one choice instead of another does not change destiny.
The book had a clever set-up and it was well-executed. The story is also touching, with many emotional moments. All-in-all, I picked up this book not expecting much and came away pleasantly surprised.

Oh, sweet book, stay seemed better at first, but overall, go, was the better life for her, and I just really enjoyed it!
I just didn't like Caroline in this book and I couldn't get along with the story line. I felt she was too different between the STAY and GO.
Shame as I was really looking forward to this book

Wow, this was amazing. I loved everything about it! And the ending was really cool and open-ended.
This actually made me believe in fate for a little while there.

This book was really good.
I'm a major fan of Cat Patrick ad her books & writing, so was so excited for this!
I like how it was structured to if Caroline went to the party, or stayed beside her Grandma in hospital.
It was interesting to see the similarities and differences between both.
I was so curious what was going to happen at the end.
If you have read Pivot Point by Kasie West & you enjoyed that, then you will like this.
The message that came across really makes you think and appreciate certain things.

Not Dating Anyone. Ever.
That's what I got out of this one. But besides from that...
I guess the issue here was that I hated the "Stay" half of the book and couldn't care less about the "Go" half. So for the "Stay" half, while I appreciated that fact that Caroline resented some of her worst choices, she bothered me so much that even when she wasn't acting like a hormonal idiot, I still didn't like her. But it wasn't even a proactive hate, it was more of an

I didn't like her but I couldn't even be bothered to hate her. Ugh. Waste of time and trees and my life.
And for the "Go" half, while I know that it did end up happy and well for her and, I didn't care about them and their relationship at all. And since there is essentially no plot outside of Caroline's relationships to people and the only one I actually enjoyed reading about was the relationship between her and Debbie, her step-mom, which we got practically nothing about, it didn't matter to me that they ended up together and she "made the right choice".
Not even mentioning that this was basically [b:Pivot Point|11988046|Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)|Kasie West|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1356020486s/11988046.jpg|16951806] but crappier and without the plot twist. Or much of a plot.

*cough cough* Hooking up with the asshole Joel. I did like that that particular event was played like it was a bad thing. She regretted it, she regretted being around him (though for the love of God, Caroline, why the hell didn't you dump his ass earlier?) and it does partially show how something like that can, essentially, ruin you in one ways than one. But ARRRGH he deserved so much worse than he got. The way their relationship ended really bugged me. It was basically a complete brush-off, like there was nothing there to even talk about.
