The queering worked really well, but I fear it’s more for casual P&P fans than obsessives like myself. Some of the flattening of the social structures, ages and characters were unnecessary and made a few of the things the author insisted on keeping from P&P kind of odd. I would still recommend it all day long. What an enjoyable read.

Fast, lighthearted(ish) historical YA queer and trans romance retelling of Pride and Prejudice where everything works out way better than expected! Don't expect this to be a shot-for-shot remake or keep the diction; it has the characters and plot elements but it's otherwise a modern retelling--and that's fine!
The character deals with a lot of misgendering, misogyny, and dysphoria throughout the book, but almost everyone who knows he's a boy is accepting and loving and incredibly supportive so it works out and feels really wholesome overall. I want Mr. Bennet to be my dad.

I realize the star rating isn’t going to seem to reflect how much I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a wonderful story of queer joy and I love the remixed classics series because they provide fantastic takes on the classics style tales that historically do not give any voice to the existence of queer people.

If you’re looking for a lovely, lighthearted read that you know will end with joy and self-love, this is absolutely the read for you!

(The author also provides a note on historical accuracy and research at the end of the book which was awesome because that was one thing I kept overthinking when I should have just been enjoying a delightful book.)

I wouldn't say this felt like a P&P retelling, more like someone who's only read other retelling's and not the original source took a shot at writing their own version. I appreciated the representation and the book was overall mostly enjoyable, but it felt nothing like P&P, and the main characters lacked anything that truly made them feel like Darcy and "Elizabeth"/Oliver, regardless of gender. There was also a lack of development, all the characters felt the same at the start as they did at the beginning.
